I just had a head light burn out and when I took the bulb out it was not a standard 9006 bulb. I have idenfitifed it as being a H3C there are pictures of HC3's at http://www.shopatmackin.com/whith3cbul.html

Does anyone know where I can buy this bulb in the UK?

Thanks for your help

If it is a headlight for a Jap import, then you have a fun time ahead of you.

They are not available over here, you can get a bulb from halfords and modify it to fit.

I would suggest that you either contact Memmbers Simon Pass or Dave Hairs, they both know a fair bit about the subject.

It might be worth having a look thru the site

history also to see if there are any threads there, it has been discused several times.

This old chestnut! You can't basically. You appear to have the Jap spec bulb which is different to the UK.

You'll have to do what I do. Buy a 453 from good old halfords and solder a second wire with spade connector to the body to connect.

Both sides of mine are like this and they work fine. Halfords also do the same in bluey hue or super bright.

The expensive bit for me was buying the chuffin soldering iron.

I could dig out Dave Marleys photo's on this mod if pushed!

This is the text from my earlier post;

Please see the attached photo's of the finished article in true Blue

Peter Style!

The bulb you want from halfords is a 453. It will have the same bulb as

stock and most importantly the right base plate with correct slot. It fits

in the housing just as the original did.

The difference is that where the original has 2 spades on the bulb the

Halfords job has only one on the end of a white braided wire (See photo).

This is the live wire. You will need the following tools per bulb.

Good Soldering Iron (£10) or borrow one.

Good Quality Solder (£2-5)or borrow some.

1 Halfords 453 (£3 for stock or £6 for the blue or 55w)

1 Crimper tool

1 crimper Spade

1.5" of suitable electric wire. (preferably blue!)

Simply solder the wire to the body of the bulb. The case is plated so you

may have to roughen up the surface. I found a small hole in the plate, I

inserted the wire through the hole from underneath the bulb and soldered the

wire to the surface on the bulb side. I supported the soldered joint by

insulation taping the new wire to the white braided one to avoid flexing.

Solder the other end of the wire to tin it and then crimp the spade

connector to the end of the wire.

That's it! While your at it make a few up for future spares!

I noticed the stock halfords one was slightly brighter than the original Jap

one and halfords offer a blue one and a 55W to further improve the situation

Remember that the white is positive and the new wire soldered to the body of

the bulb is negative. The wires will now protrude into the engine bay and

these plug into the old connector.

It works a treat and is far cheaper than importing a bulb from Japan.

If you need more or you want me to make a few up for you at cost then please

let me know!

I will mail you the Pictures cos I can't figure out how to load them in this bit!

I found the bulbs available from Auto Performance Products http://www.a-pp.com/

They are a UK reseller for PIAA the PIAA part nubmer is UBD1 the bulb is a type H3C. The UBD1 is a yellow ion bulb and outputs 85 watts while using 55 watts of power. They also have a blue bulb but have had several cusomters pulled over using the blue bulbs.

The bulbs were in stock and I should have them tomorrow.

The bulbs are expensive about £25 each. So Halfords may be a better option, I am not sure how the pricing compares.

PIAA also makes some Super White and other bulbs that appear to be similar to the Halfords bulbs if anyone wants to try those.

The bulbs at Halfords are about 5 or 6 quid each, so 25 is a bit much.

Demon tweeks sell 55w bulbs which are supposed to give 85w performance.

I used them because as you know Z headlights are crap. They are brighter cos I tested them by fitting one at a time and shining each light at the garage wall to see which one was brighter.

Mines a jap also so I had to do the wire mod.

I got round this - Nissan can get that bulb for you for about £25...55w! I modified my headlamps to allow standard UK spec bulbs in it by fitting a wire onto the headlamp casing and that has worked well for 1.5 years with 100w bulbs in now!

Bilky,

Where did you attach the wire on the headlamp ? I thought about doing this but couldn't see anywhere accessible without taking the headlights out which is a nightmare job. Or have I missed something simple ?

Dave

I took the headlights out and it was a nightmare job!

Apparently it's possible to remove the headlights without taking the front bumper off, but that's not how we did it.

Bilky seems to be lucky to be able to use 100W bulbs without them blowing/melting the wiring like mine did. Maybe it's because he lives up North and it's colder up there! :-)

The PIAA bulbs I recieved are much brighter but put out yellow light. I am going to call the dealer on Monday and see if he can get super whites instead. I tried it with one stock and on PIAA in and the PIAA appeared twice as bright. It is supposed to put out 85 watts on 55 watts power.

Is it illegal to have yellow headlights?

Guys - its very tricky but there is a phillips type screw head on the metal of the headlamp - I attached a wire there.....its very fiddly but with some patience its possbile - I did it with the headlapms still on the car and a small screwdriver - a spade connector and a wire....tokk a couple of hours as I was being very careful!! If u want the procedure I followed I can email it to anyone that wants it...also I think z32.org has the steps to remove the headlamps without taking the bumper out - which would make the job much easier!!!
