Tonight went to take Zed out and as I backed out of the garage I noticed the hand brake light was still on, discovered it's staying on even with hand brake released. The brakes are disengaging.

Any ideas? Car is an import.

Is it a warning for something?

Brake pads, brake fluid or does hand brake wire need adjusting.

Help appreciated.

Geoff.

Have had this for a while, it is usually a sign of pad wear, but not sure that the zed has that function.

Having said the above, checked the fluid today and it is well below minimum, will top it up, if it doesnt clear it will check replace pads.

Mac what's this switch your talking about?

I'll check the brake fluid tommorow.

geoff.

Did a search on the forum and yeah could be brake fluid or switch thing - i'll check tommorow.

Thanks.

I never realised that it is such a common problem.

Geoff.

Could just be as simple as the hand brake switch is frozen. Its a comon thing on most cars. You may notice peoples reverse lights stuck on when it is really cold too.

Stuart you could be right as I checked the fluid and it was fine and after the car was driven for 15 min. stopped and restarted the hand brake light on the dash did go out.

Thanks,

Geoff.

It could also be the float in the master cylinder sticking with it being so cold ;)

I had a similar problem when I first bought my VW scirocco. After a bit of fiddling about it turned out to be a 50p piece wedged on top of the switch!! Cheapest car fix ever? 50p profit!

Well sussed it out in the end - light remained on after releasing the h/brake but went out after the car warm up - so I had checked the b/fluid level it was a bit above the min line so i thought it could be b/fluid. So I bought some today topped it up and yes light go out!!! Hey presto.
