Door Mirror Removal??

Hi Guy's

Please help.

Tonight i caught my passenger door mirror on the drive hedge and it's broken the centre shaft.

It's now hanging by the electrical wires.

It's broken the retraction shaft in the centre of the mirror.

Questions!!

1) How do i get the mirror off.

Noticed that there are two screws underneath the mirror, what will these release??.

It'll probaly repair if i can get at the two shaft halves.

How does the mirror glass come out, etc??

If not, can the internals be swapped over from a damaged mirror.

Hope you can help.

Cheers Dave.

There are 3 screws underneath. These will release the actual mirror from the car. The bit that sits on is then the non-colour-coded triangle bit. From memory, the inside cover pulls off and that will reveal a nut I think. Sorry its a bit vague, it was quite some time ago I took mine off.

Yeah - there's a plastic cover over the trianglular plastic piece inside - take off - reveals the screws. As I remember one is in a awkward position. Be careful you don't drop the screws down inside the door or you'll have to take the door trim off.

Good luck.

If you want a replacement look in back of Autotrader there's an advert for 2nd hand parts for Jap cars. That's what I did when I had a damaged mirror, paid £90 instead of hundreds for a new one.

Geoff.

Take the mirror off using the Nut inside the car (triangle trim piece). Don't use the screw under the mirror method because you'll 1) scratch your paint work with fustration. 2) be there all day 3) both of the first ones.

Thank's Guy's

When it's off, can it be taken to bits????.

cheers Dave.

PS

Anybody got a broken door mirror for sale, as i only need the steel tube from inside, to repair mine.

Cheers Dave.

If you have both bits of the steel tube you could try sticking/bonding it back togther!!

Stupid as it sounds, the metal dicc on the rotating bit of mine had snapped in 2 and i stuck it back together with no more nails, not only does it not wobble anymore, it folds in and out perfectly!!:D
