After reading Rypins post - may God bless him - I am rather incensed that such a lengthy post on Creation V Evolution should appear on a CAR FORUM - where are the moderators when you need them? The subject was put into 3 posts and I feel that is OTT.

The Discussion part of the forum is I suppose open to anything, but is there some limitations that we should have?

I am a relgious follower but don't use this forum to promote my beliefs. Only fundamentalists would hijack any platform to promote their beliefs. So how do we stop this happening within the confines of a forum which is democratic and fair???

So what do we do? Am I the only person who thinks like this???

Geoff.

No we shouldn't!!

yes we should -

its the same as any post on general discussion - you dont have to read it - to ban religion would be censorship - and thats not what were about.

Regards,

alex

On second thoughts... in the general forum, I suppose we shouldn't, annoying as it may be to some , we should be tolerent of others I suppose, even if they do annoy me!! :)

You do have a point, censorship is a very difficult issue, but do we need to allow a 3 page post???

Geoff.

Because this is a democratic and fair we have to right to freedom of speech. You didnt have to read it. I saw 3 huge pages of text and personally I thought that it was not worth my while reading it. I have made my mind up and no matter what other people say it will not change it.

Should we ban people who say Supras or 3000GTs are better? This is against my belief and against 99% of the people on here, but other people are allowed to express what THEY think and what the FEEL.

This is not a totalian forum, nor is it a totalian country which we live in. The individual is FREE to say what they want and we as individuals are FREE to believe or not what other people say of believe.

Also the word RELIGION is a very broad word. One definition is

A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

Couldnt Z ownership come under that?

Cause: To keep and make their ZX as best as it can be.

Principle: Do what you can to reach the goal.

Activity. Changing oil, washing, driving. generally doing Z stuff.

Devotion!!!!! I dont know any Z owner on here who is not devoted to their car.

So Z ownership according to the dictionary could be religion.

Stuart

I personally believe anyone should be free to talk about anything they want. If you're talking about banning one non-car related subject then you have to start thinking about what else to ban. Other forums can be pretty anal about what's acceptable discussion, but this forum isn't like that and I hope that's how it stays. How can you not talk about religion when Christmas is round the corner? I s'pose it's another case of: if you don't like it, don't get involved. If what's being discussed is overtly offensive (for example: if there were strong anti-semetic views being expressed) then that's cause for moderation. I haven't actually read the thread you're talking about, but maybe I should. I dunno if I can be bothered tho, cos I'm only really interested in car-talk, and maybe a few rubbish jokes. Oh, and a bit of bling-bashing :D

I'm sorry Geoff I'm not with you on this one. As long as someone isn't breaking the forums "acceptable use" policy they should be allowed to say what they want without fear of censorship.

You're right, this is a car forum but luckily it's also a place where people can make friends, kick back and just chew the fat with them on any old subject. I'ts good to be able to go to General Discussion and talk about random NZR stuff with people who share a common interest. I for one wouldn't like to feel that if I wanted to talk about certain subjects I'd have to go to another forum. Just my 2p's worth.

P.S. Did I read it? Not ruddy likely! Have you seen how long it is!?

Watch out. Blinging could become a cult. ;)

The only difference between a cult and a religion is religions are tax exempt ;)

Should we allow posts about cults?! The Church of Bling... hmm. :)

Geoff,

I didn't bother to read all the guff about religion/evolution because there were simply too many words and I would have died of boredom before the end. However, I didn't consider it offensive, neither did I feel that it seriously contravened our acceptable use policy. If you posted about your religion then it's unlikely that I'd moderate that either, unless you were insulting others.

Personally, I feel that religion is the root cause of most problems in the world, but I'm not going to make it worse by censoring people who wish to discuss it reasonably. (Although posting someone elses text hardly counts as discussion ;))

Peace.

Totally agree with your stand on holding back on moderation, but just gotta say I personally think peoples misunderstanding and ignorance regarding "religion" is the root cause of problems. Forums are a great place for ignorant people to spread their ignorance because everyone has an equal right to post complete cr*p, and show how stupid they are. I'm not saying stupidity should be moderated... damn, this place would be so boring if it was full of intelligent posts FFS! Although he's not said it directly, I get the feeling Geoff has been offended by the other thread. I still haven't read it so can't really comment. But if (for example) someone posts: "God is sh*t", maybe for a bit of a laff, to someone with strong religious beliefs this is obviously gonna be offensive. So what to do? Tell them to go away and not read? Or moderate? If someone says: gees Andy - you aint arf a total c*nt - hey everyone, aint Andy a c*nt?! and you get really offended, what do you do?... go away and not read it because you're in a minority and the majority agree with the post? Hmm. That's just an example btw... I think you're a top bloke... even if the majority don't ;)

Ditto....

they shouldn't be banned.

The last post by Mike groves on t'other thread sums it up...

Jesus loves you,

everyone else thinks you are a c*nt

PMSL :D:rofl:  bananashag.gif

Mikes final words were funny as fook. Pure class!

I like it when we get a post topic that is 'way out there'. It makes the forum more fun, gets people involved, can be informative and also very very funny! I think/hope we are all grown up enough to have these type of discussions without taking things too much to heart.

Threads like the ones on religion make this place what it is.....interesting, and a fun diversion from actually working and doing my job!:D

Yup. Nothin like poking a taboo in the eye!

As Spock says - live long and prosper - aint no rush to get dead!

Even the believers arent in a rush - xcept them that think they'll get the 70 virgins

wot abopwt the Church of the Poisoned Mind ?

That post was hell just to skim through - but you should not allow censorship on the Internet. Long live the Internet, Britney Spears and Mr Yellow Dancing Banana

I don't think any subject should be taboo unless it is SPECIFICALLY posted to cause offence to any person or persons.

Sure, there are some topics that may unwittingly cause offence but that's for the moderators to edit as they see fit.

I find the general discussion forum witty and sometimes informative:rolleyes: (LOL), it's good for a chat, a laugh and a break from the usual car-speak. It shows we all have varying personalities and a life beyond our Zeds;)

Can I sense another poll developing..............;)

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

If you ban stuff like that, you're playing into the hands of extremists like the Witnesses and the Creationalists.

I have seen the light!!!!

Beat The Devil!!! :mac1:

Amen - Hallelujah for you have spoken - oh well it certainly got more attention than the Herts. Meet! Maybe we'll have a service at the Herts meet and up the numbers, lol!!!
