Hi all - just looking at getting a red zed. I got the registration number but all insurers I tried say that cant tell if its an import. The guy selling it says he thinks its a uk model?

Is there anywhere I can go as I need to find out asap?

Tesco have told me that UK models are all single turbo and all twin turbos are imports??!!??

Cheers

Bloody hell Tell Tesco to stick to food sales:rolleyes:

http://www.300zx.org.uk/mod_comp_0.htm

Tescos are talking rubbish...the Z31 had a single turbo, maybe thats what they mean?

Easier things to spot

Import - Square rear numberplate

Z badge on front

FairladyZ on rear

Boost gauge in mmgh

Loads of other tiny differences, think theres some info on http://www.300zx.org.uk

Tesco's are talking rubbish, there are non turbo's (N/A's) and Twin Turbo's only.

If the bonnet badge has a "Z" on it, it's an import, Nissan emblem, it's UK.

If it's an Auto, you can also tell from the switch alongside the gearshift to the top right, 3 position, if it's there its an Import, if its not its UK.

If it has 2 seats, or no turbo's, its an import.

Rear bumper, 2 fog lights in the bumper moulding and long thin No plate, its UK, no fogs in bumper, "square" plate its an import.

Millions more, but their the most visually obvious that come to mind.

Oh... also, front fog lights in front bumper and indicators on corners, Import, UK has indicators on the front bubper, blanks in the corners.

Oh.... and japanese writing on drivers sun visor = Import

And on a frivolous note.... generally superb bodywork with no rust = Import.

Lots of rust = UK model

Happy hunting, Paul

LOL.......not as easy as ANY one of the suggestions above!

Hi Jason

The V5 logbook is also a useful source of info, UK cars say something like "declared new at first registration" whereas imports say "imported vehicle, previously used abroard"

I see you have the Supra turbo at present. I went from one of those to a Zed and I'm not disappointed.

The old Supra is still a great car and a future classic (as the Zed will be, no doubt). What's your's like?

I had the Jap spec Aero-top with digital dash, in black. It was just like KITT from knightrider:D

I had it over 4 years and before that I had a UK spec turbo for a couple of years. I missed "KITT" for a while, but I'm happy with my Zed now:dance:

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Rich, I got the UK 91 Spec. I fancied the Jap import as the 2.5TT is bloody fast. and with a digi dash and removable roof its bloody lovely. If I can find one for the right price I'd even consider one of them as me next car. Just insurance :( though.

three more things to tell apart

rear wheel size

seat belt position

parcell shelf fixing

(o yea and imports feel slugish...)

LOL another three things are.........

Smoked corner lamps

Headlight washers

A wing on the drivers side wiper;)

three more

type of key

side reflecters

remains of tryadds under passenger seat.

steve

Fecking Jap coin holder stuck next to your Auto stick (if you were unlucky like me)

Stuck it on with super super super glue I think, I cant get the thing off.... :D

Found in my Z:

Japanese coins under seat :D

Japanese McDonalds voucher for a free burger

(Anyone going to Japan let me know and I'll send 'em to ya!)

And while the import will be rust free and maybe low mileage from only being raced from traffic light to traffic light in downtown Tokyo, it will have a limiter at 112mph and no diff oil cooler or transmission cooler and a smaller radiator than Euro cars that have been cooled for continuous high speed 155mph (as if!) running. In fact try continuous 155mph (if you can find a private road long enough) on an import once you've de restricted it and you'll fry the rear diff.

Oh and the stock import zorst has a choke point in it

Fighting talk eh!!!:D Me thinks an import vs UK, which is best discussion is brewing!!

nah, they're all best just slight differences! Anorak talk but watch some peeps get really wound up over it;)

Human nature means you tend to justify your own decision to yourself. Its not like we can all afford both auto / manual and import / UK versions so who can make fully objective comparison?

Be happy whenever you can!

*Clap* *clap* well said Sir... :)

well said...

:D :D

steve

Yup:D

Agree with WillieO's post and the next 2.

Zed is a truly great car and whether import/UK manual/auto it doesn't matter.

I just picked the best one I looked at, which happened to be a UK auto. I would have bought an import or manual if it had been the best available at the time I was buying one.

Wouldn't mind a second Zed, now. say an import manual SWB (tt of course) in a nice metallic blue/purple.........

I not only got a load of yen in mine, i aslso got a japanese chuddy wrapper!!

Wouldnt mind but mine was imported in 1998 FFS!!!! Dirty lazy previous owners!!!
