I have been looking at the VIN plate and noted down all the numbers (chassis, colour code).

Checked on Andy Z's web site and the results are as follows

Chassis no's between GCZ32 508491 - GCZ32 518719 were manufactured in 1990 (mine is in between that lot)

My seat belt date tag says 1990.

The colour code is KH6G which is.......

From september 91 - september 93!....

And my V5 says registered in 1991.

What the hell is going on?... :(

lol, hey lets hope not :D

Just kinda strange......

Mine is very simalar. Its registered as 1991, has 1990 on the seat belts and the chassis number puts it in 1990.

I emailed Nissan and I was told that it was built with the 1991 spec but used some parts which where made in 1990, IE seatbelts, floor mats etc.

Email/PM me the full details off your VIN plate and I'll look it up for you off the Nissan CD. I'll be able to tell you the month of manufacture (of your VIN plate at least ! LOL;))

could it just be that the car was manufacture in 1990, sat in a compound for a year and then got finished/shipped? i know its a totally different thing but they are still selling maestro's (i think) that were made in the early '90s:eek:

(obdviously a good design)

DVLA registered Cerina's as a '92 but the seat belts tell me it's an '89. Andy P also check on the Fast db and it also came up as an '89.

That is quite possible. The first Z I looked at was a UK spec yellow car which was registered on a N plate. I checked with Nissan (becuase I knew little about them at the time) and it turned out that the car was about No. 35 ever made ! But it had sat in a warehouse somewhere and not been registered until about 1995 or something.

Mine was registered as a 91 and turns out its actually a 90

LOL, Ok thanks for that Andy.

So to sum it up. The DVLA don't really have a clue..... :D

Well because we have the letters to show the year and they don't start in January the DVLA can only go to the nearest year below when they think it was made.

I was told my Jap Z was a late '91 or early '92 so probable J reg but because they didn't know the exact month it had to go on a H plate.

Had a similar problem with mine, but I got all the information together, and sent it to the DVLA along with a letter from Mike Feeney (as Tech Advisor to the UK Z Club) and they issued me a new plate.

Andy, I didn't think they'd be so helpful!

I've got a private H plate now anyway but it would be nice to have a J for when I sell it.

Does a year really matter though when it's 12 years old lol

Might see if I could get a better J plate though and sell mine on.

I'll try to send you my chassis number for you to look up if you don't mind Andy?

I think now all our zeds are so old anyway, most being 10 or more years old, age has little effect on value, it's all about condition isn't it?

Paul

Have you asked BIMTA to check it out? I'm not sure what the outcome would be if someone has bettert title/ownership credentials but it might help for peace of mind. You could always call them first to ask what the likelihood is before you go ahead. Their website is http://www.bimta.org.uk (I think)

They will be at Brands Hatch on 8 December if someone from the 300ZX Club wants to talk to them directly. I'm happy to introduce you if it would help.

True but for the aggravation of a couple of digi photos and writing a letter I now have a K plate when I used to have a J - what would you do ?

Can't argue with that, I would do the same, just meant with the last post, value is all about condition with the zed, I'd happily pay more for a 1990 minter than a 1994 dog!!

Andy, reading your last posts, would you mind awfully if I send you my chassis No's confirming the month of manufacture for our zeds?

Your website is a superb resource by the way, can't tell you how often its been of use to me!!

Regards

Send away, offer is open to all. Please include all the details - a digi photo may be easiest.

You can ignore what the V6 gives as year of manufacturer, the importer would have tried to get it reg as a later year in order to make it more attractive etc. Mine could well be a 1990 and not a 91 as suggested on the V6.

Sounds very much what has happened with mine. All though it still doesn't explain the colour!.
