Hi All,

Just been speaking to Luke at the zcentre, and whilst discussing oil coolers for our recently aquired TT, I mentioned that I have no engine oil cooler at all on my 1991 Non turbo!!

So can anyone confirm the situation re. oil cooler fitment on non turbo cars?? is mine missing??

I dont think Jap Imports had oil coolers.

UK ones do.

According to luke, they all do, just smaller on the imports. The import TT weve just got certainly has one. Maybe they forgot to fit one to mine!!

N/A= no oil cooler

Import TT small oil cooler

UK TT large oil cooler

Am sure that's right,I could be wrong though:o

I hope yo are right Mac, so much conflicting info from everyone, Luke did seem adament they should have one, but there is no evidence mine has ever had one!! and I'm sure I'd have seen bracket holes/fixing marks etc when working in the vacinity if someone had removed it!!

well I know the TT ones are correct, just not 100% sure about the N/A:confused:

My understanding also is all TT's have one - the import TT has a slightly smaller one that the UK one - Mine definately has one fitted as I put my HKS induction kit in on Friday night and I could see it easily - wasnt aftermarket as it had 'Calsonic' on it which are used by Nissan for exhausts etc.

That's my understanding to , as I am just upgrading my import one for a uk spec oil cooler as its bigger

NA's don't have an engine oilcooler.

The NA oilfilter bracket is different and doesn't have the connections for the cooler.

You could upgrade to a TT oilfilter bracket or buy one of those sandwich plate thingies.

Ah, something I can add a couple of comments on........

There is a difference with the Import TT Auto and Manual models. My TT 2+0 Z is a Manual, and unlike the Auto, does not have an oil cooler as standard. I believe this is true for the NA Manuals (perhaps the NA Autos too?).

The way to go is to fit the TT (Auto or UK) Filter bracket and pipes. I tried the various Sandwich approaches and there is not enough room: 1) The exit points do not align up to allow any safe connection (on a TT - not sure if the NA would be any different?); 2) You would have to fit a smaller filter such as the Micra (also fitted to the earlier 300ZX31 models, I believe), otherwise it would be holed at the first bump. I also tried moving to a remote filter, but again the pipework was the problem.

After much heartache, I learnt that the way to go is to fit the Filter Bracket, and also the standard pipework to the front of the car - then you can match up to a good Oil Cooler (I can recommend ThinkAuto as the supplier).

Hope this will help somebody (I think I have a fiche print of the parts somewhere).

Ciao, Geoff

Thanks Geoff,

I'm not actually worried about fitting one as the car is rarely driven hard, just wanted to make sure it wasn't something I should have which is missing and therefore might cause me engine trouble in the future.
