Just had a look at Liverpool Victoria website for quoting on an import - even though it quotes you the front page STATES CLEARLY they DO NOT insure japanese imports. Basically they will take your money but if oyur involved in an accident, technically you will not be insured.

Any comments feel free as Im know unsure who to use as I may be getting an import.

I'll wait till someone with a little more knowledge replies.

Cheers

Interesting - I have mine insured with them and double checked it for an import. No problems. I did have to phone up to confirm it - maybe they have changed their policy since then.

May be useful for people, I had my first import insured through Norwich Union Direct. They handled my total loss claim without any bother and I haggled a fair value with them.

Dreading my renewal however!

Can anyone recommend someone who will cover a daily driver and a zed as a second car?

David

Norwich Union Direct told me categorically they do not insure imports!!! when I was looking round.

I'll have to phone Liverpool Victoria up to see if it affects my current insurance with them - Norwich Union do insure imports - I just asked them and they offer it on their website. I've had a quote off them before.

Norwich Union told me they do NOT insure imports too

dont think half of these insurers know their arse from their elbow

:D

Adrean Flux

Footman James and Co.

Firebond.

All resonable and will insure imports. Mines with Adrean Flux and I pay £318. p.a.

Norwich Union told me they do not insure imports via the 'Direct' business, you need to go through a broker. I did use this method for a couple of years. General rule of thumb I have found is that NU will insure anything - if you're prepared to pay a little more.

Liverpool Victoria told me that they do not insure imports.

Try http://www.lifesure.co.uk Their polices are underwritten by AON but you have to be over 30.

Liverpool Victoria wont now do imports - they have changed their policy - Mine states 'Import' on the documents and they have said they will happily keep re-insuring me - its just new business they wont take on.

A shame as they where quite good.

Direct Line do imports but you need a tracker fitted

Same for Tesco.

Can anyone recommend someone who will cover a daily driver and a zed as a second car?

Bell Direct do - they did mine both and gave full NCB on both

tesco do jap insurance and are cheap ive got mine with them £634 fully comp and just cat2 imombilser

Got liverpool viictoria to do mine, shame they wont do imports now though as they do not alter the cost for mods, I had to ask twice!!. lol Also they do not adjust for any points that dont result in a ban. If they will keep insuring me its ok though , Jack.lol

Your right there, they "quoted me happy" with a quote for £1900!!FFS

I e-mailed them to say how shite it was considering i was getting quotes round the £900 mark and they said sorry there was a mistake and they actually wont insure me at all!!!

Ah well, their loss.......tossers!

If I were you I'd double check they know its an Import, Tesco want cat 2 for UK, Trackers for Imports, ask shrimpo hes with them now and has a tracker.

If It gets nicked they WILL try not to pay you any way they can.

Direct Line are the same as they are the underwriters for Tesco.

I looked at TSB Insurance and was given a quote of £500 fully comp for a UK Z, but every time I tried to finalise it online I got an error. I emailed them saying I think their system is not working because I get an error and they are quoting 1/4 as much as every one else. They said there was nothing wrong with it all quotes are correct. The service went off line for 2 weeks and when it came back on I was getting quotes of £2000 fully comp.

Im looking around to insure my Jap import. best I've found so far is Tett Hamilton. around a 1/4 less than all the others I have tried.

Anyone know why imports are more expensive to insure ?
