I've just bought a K&N filter for my 1991 TTZ. The box says its for a 1990 -93 Z, the instructions suggest this also....but does it fit - NO! The filter is so large that it doesn't fit between the splash guard and the bumper reinforcement! (In fact if I remove the splash guard if still doesnt fit, because there's the oil cooler support beam going across the front).

Has anybody else had grief fitting a K&N? Better still, can somebody let me know the dimensions for theirs? (When I say mine is large, I mean you could almost wear it as a hat!)

Cheers

Si.

I took the splash guard off mine, and it fits fine. (HKS MegaFlow intake)

I have a Stillen induction kit which is basically a K&N with some alloy machining. It fits a treat screwed down on top of the splash gard. Hardest bit was removing the old airbox.

If you have a Z with the headlight washers, the Stillen/K&N/JWT-intake won't fit.

The washer-reservoir is in the way and you'll have to remove it first (with a hacksaw)

If you want to keep the headlight-washers, you could go to a breaker and get a smaller reservoir from another car....and be a little creative by relocating it in your car.

Leave the splash gard in place if you can!

I had a euro oil cooler, splash gard, headlight washers and JWT pop fitted in there. Now I have the dual pop with a minor oil cooler angle adjustment. (a UK Z)

The pannel does squash down on the filter slightly and make a dent, but that's okay.

Oh how worrying! Wondering if a BlitZ SUS is gonna fit on mine when she comes home...sulk!

Still confused here....

lymon: I guess the water reservoir has been moved on my model - since it sits behind the front bumper, in front of the drivers-side wheel arch (UK spec remember)

I'm guessing I've been sent the wrong filter, since the diagram on the instructions shows a differnt shape filter to mine. (The one in the schematic is quite conical, whereas mine isn't. The end cap is almost the same size as the fixing end!)

I'll post a picture later if I can....

I've got a K&N and removed and cleaned it last night.

Looks and fits just as in the pics above.

Well thats the answer then...My filter looks *very* different.. I'll still post a picture anyway - just so you can laugh at what I was sent!

Timmy,

the Blitz SUS filter fits fine, you can even keep the splashguard in place too.

Dave

CheerZ for putting my mind at ease Dave mate!

I'm fitting an HKS filter this weekend - I'm getting very scared with all this talk of dents in the filter, water resevoirs in the way and wot not, LOL.

Lymon, what year is your Z?

WillyEd, what year is your Z?

Mine is a 94 UK Spec.

I have JWT (K&N)-intakes in both my Z's.

One is from '91 the other from '92, but they're both US imports and don't have the water reservoir.

..filter fits like a glove..

My previous Z was a '91 Euro-spec and did have the water-reservoir in the way...I had to get it out of the way, before I could fit the filter.

Andrew,

Mine is Uk too, it will fit. The washer res is shared as is not near the air box.

Jez.

Hi,

Make sure you haven't been sent the filter for a Z31 300ZX instead, as they are much longer in size...9 or 12"!

LOL, my intake looks NOTHING like that. More like half of one of Jordan's bras, LOL.

Wish me and Warren luck with the fitting this weekend. He "knows what he is doing".
