I/ve just gone full circle and got my second Z. A 92 TT import.

The oil pressure gauge is puzzling me. It varies its reding at the same RPM. I looked up normal readings and it will sit at this level for a while and increase under load as expected. Then it will just drop off to 0 at idel and under load increase to normal idle level.

There is no smoking of any kind after driving and letting car run for a while, no burning oil smell, no oil leaks. Car runs full boost. Has 40k on the clock and very well looked after. Had a 90 Uk spec about 5 yrs ago and suffered the dreaded turbo seal failure. So I know the symptoms.

Is this likley to be just the oil pressure sender switch ?

If so anyone know how much a new one is and where to get it from.

Just registred by the way.

Hi Andy,

Spot-on;)

The oil pressure switch is a common problem and surprisingly expensive to fix:( The switch is £80+vat from Nissan dealers.

Some members have aftermarket gauges as they are cheaper than the sender unit and more accurate.

If you want to stay stock, get one from Courtesy Nissan, they are US$60 (around £40) but only if you are planning to order more parts anyway as the carriage+duty will bring the cost up to what you would pay here.

You can ask Mike Feeney (Traders forum) how much he can get one for. Did you get a warranty with your car, if so they may pay for it (mine did;) )

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

...my non turbo does exactly the same. It's performed well for all of the 4 years that I've had it so I've stopped bothering about the 0 readings. They tend to happen after a fast run. But worthy of note is driving up the whole length of France a couple of summers ago, cruise set at legal limit on the empty French motorways - and the gauge read just above half way all day for 2 days - so there's nothing wrong with the sender - I put it down to the way in which the speed-related oil pump works.

good luck and welcome back - they can't be beat.

Thanks guys.

I think I'll go for an aftermarket unit. Any ideas on where and what to get and are they easy to fit ?
