Hi All,

As we all know, the OEM 55W dip beam bulbs could have been manufactured by "Joe Lucas, Prince of Darkness " (old biker joke from old biker).

I got a pair of 85W H3C from the US and they seemed marginally better.

Has anyone got good things to say about the PIAA 55W H3Cs described as "Platinum Superwhite"? compared to the OEM?

(Yes I know I should have the HID but can't afford it! :D )

TIA - Gio

James,

As I'm a lazy bugger, can you tell me where you got them and the fitting of them to your Z..........i.e. any soldering etc..........

Thanks,

Matty.

Told me to go to http://www.priracing.com £23 each +vat for Superwhites
and I said
You can get the PIAA as H3C - which is what I did - at £23 + VAT last November. ..... So you don't even have to do the conversion! (The conversion would, however, give you access to a wider range of bulbs from more sources.)

:duffer: :D :duffer:

Right I've been saving my energy for a reply............took 11 hours, thanks Gio...

Interesting reading on http://www.zx-12r.org/Motorcycle_info/Information%20Pages/Auto%20Express%20H7%20Bulbs%20Test.htm

PIAA Superwhites get really slagged off in this test of lightbulbs. Ok, it's a test of H7 bulbs for motorcycles, but I assume the technology is fairly similar. Had I seen this test before I forked out a fortune for the PIAAs, I'd spent my time on converting my Jap headlight to H3 and bought Philips instead.

Even with the PIAA SuperWhites, I'm still not very happy about the lights - my old Toyota Carina with factory standard 55w bulbs definitely lights up the road heaps better.

Does anyone know why the Nissan lights are terrible? Is it the reflector, the lamp housing, the lens, or what?

Just had a look at the link about modding lights. Still cant see the pic Jock! Looked at http://www.priracing.com but cant see any H3C bulbs. Am I just being a mong or arent there any there! Anyone know part numbers for bulbs?

Yep! 55w + 30% is the way to go for fogs.

As for H3c, I have now changed to H3's for these as the PIAA's only last a year and at £26 each a bit expensive.

I have put in uprated H3 same as PIAA i.e. 85 w output, got on ebay from HK in same box as PIAA and they only cost 99p /pair + £6 postage but are just as good.

You need to convert the connection and I used the domestic plug fuse holder method, where you just clamp the fuse holder to the bulb mounting. takes only a few minutes.

I have also just ordered some even higher rated ones which are 85w with a 140w output, may not last as long but should improve vision, these cost about 6.99/pair
