Hello all,

I bought my first ever 300zx on Saturday - what a car!!

Just thought I'd say high to everyone here and if you could help me with a few questions I have:

1. Mine is an 89 G twin turbo and my turbo gauge reads -7 to +7 is this normal as from a site I was looking at it shows -14 to +14???

2. The oil pressure gauge reads 0 to 8 what should it be reading at idle and on acceleration

3. How do you change a front sidelight bulb the one that is combined with the front fog??

4. Any other things I should know about??

5. Any regular meets in the Essex area??

Sorry to jump in with the questions but I really need to learn a bit more about this car so I can have fun with it.

Thanks again.

Welcome to the nut house ;)

1. Your turbo gauge reads in x100mmHg instead of psi, because it is a Jap spec, this is normal, and 700mmHg is about equivalent to 14psi.

2. The gauge should be about in the middle, it is highly innacurate though so I wouldnt bother worrying about it.

3. Front sidelight bulb is changed by removing the corner light then removing the fog unit from behind.

4. Yes, zeds are an expensive hobby ;)

5. Probably, look in the events section.

Hello mate, and welcome to the site ... :D

Glad to see you're pleased with your new purchase; you gotta love 'em really - got any pics? What colour? Auto/Manual?

As for your questions:

1. You boost gauge is a Japanese or J-Spec one, so rather than measuring to 14 psi, it measures in mm/HG, or to 1 bar roughly. All J-Spec boost gauges are marked like this.

2. Oil pressure gauge (Which are notoriously unreliable) tend to run at somewhere around the middle whilst driving (so 4-ish) and a little less at idle (say, 1-2)

3/4 Suggest you spend some time perusing help and advice, the regular things come up quite often ;)

5. Yes, we tend to have and Essex/Kent meet about once a month/ once every two months - keep an eye on the meetings forum.

HTH,

JB. :D

Thanks all, for your info, thought I had a dodgy dash at first.

Details are

89 G

Targa

Twin Turbo

Graphite Grey?? dont know what it is called.

And its completely standard, so i think my first step will be to replace the air filter any preferences, prices ??

Oh and have the cam belt changed and serviced, just for piece of mind.

Whats the average on petrol as I filled it up (approx £58) and it is just below half from only doing 130 miles is this average??

Is there any sites that have info on replaceing bulbs and any other info that will help?

Cheers

Mail me sales@getgreddy.co.uk :)

Welcome to the mad world of Zs

If you use a search for light bulbs you will see a much talked about subject. If its headlights one might consider PIAAs.

MPG! your figures sound ok, depends on how fast you go!

Happy Z-ding:dance:

How are you driving your car? If you are driving round town and flooring it for little spurts you wont get too much to the gallon. Also round town and fast driving does less MPG.

For example I went on holiday and got 32mpg on a hot day with a boot full of luggage. I did 320 miles and the needle was still not touching the E. I didnt drive too fast there, I stayed about 60mph.

Yesterday I went Santa Pod and followed people home who hardly touched below 80mph. I did 330 miles and had to put an extra £15 in to get home. But by the looks of it, you are not doing well in the MPG part. Does the petrol cap hiss when you take it off? If not you may have a petrol leak.

Most people go for the A'PEXi induction. Check out the traders section as you get one a cheaper from them. I dont want to give a price incease I get it wrong but I am sure you are looking at less then £150.

If you dont know when the cambelt was last changed you should really put it on your to do list.

Bulbs are really easy to change. You dont need a site ;)

Open bonet, unscrew light seal, unclip bult pull it out and unplug from the power ;)

Import bulbs are different, but there are tech write ups on how to convert it to a H3 which is the UK bulb and easier to get hold of. But there are places to get Import bulbs from but they are a little more expensive.

Stuart

Cheers all,

Chris I shall be in contact with you very soon for an Apexi is this a two cone or a single cone?? Does it fit mine?

Thanks again. I am going to search the old threads now for help on the bulb as it isnt a headlight but the sidlight in the bumper.

Oh and my petrol cap does hiss when I remove it so no leaks there I hope just bad driving I guess and it was all around town.

Thanks again Ant:)
