The other day I decided to try this BP Ultimate stuff to see if there was any comparision to the Optimax I usually use. As I thought there was no real noticable difference apart from the price, 87.9 pence per litre! I never pay more than 82.9 round my way for a litre of Shells finest.

I have also been told that depite all BP's "improvements" to there standard super unleaded it is still only giving 97 octane. ! less than Optimax.

Is there anything that makes BP Ultimate better than Optimax and is it really worth the extra 5p on every litre!

Anyway, starting to sound like a moaning old anorak now so will let ya guys say your stuff!

Cheers,

Justin

and there was me thinking of getting mine re-tuned to run on cooking oil!

I filled up on Ultimate the day before the RR and I'v used nothing else since

254BHP from an N/A.....Yeah! I think it works.

No really I have noticed the difference,

Stronger, Smoother and More responsive.

Did'nt really notice much from the Optimax when I teied it a while back.

All I can say is it's worth a tank full just to try it. But does it work for the TT, I dont know!!!

I would not take the RR figures serious especially with an automatic.

A relitive from Greece came over last week, told me that BP do a 100RON fuel there!!

I wonder in that case if Ultimtate is 100 RON.

It seems pointless to release a fuel which has obviously been put out there to compete in the niche that Optimax as enjoyed exclusively up to now with a fuel of only 97 RON. And what with the extortionate price and all!

I have looked on the BP website and nothing is said about octane what so ever.

Any more veiws on this?

Well, there we go then. Must be surely inferior to Optimax then.

They are both better for your engine, MPG, performance, environment, cleaner burning but one is 97 and the other is 98. Nuff said!

Optimax is way best. I noticed no difference over bog standard unleaded when I filled up with Ultimate, apart from the price- 87p when Optimax is 78p round by me. I don't make a habit of putting normal unleaded in by the way. I just happened to be in a weird place where NO garages seemed to have super.

The engine is definately better with Optimax.

you have an NA though so id have thought it wouldnt really matter if you run it on 95.

but it does feel better. So I should just by normal stuff? I was just under the impression cars from Japan should use something closer to 100RON fuel. What is the difference between an NA and a TT that makes the TT need higher octane fuel?

If you are decatted, would not LRP be just as good and cheaper, than either Opti or BP ult.

anybody tried it???

TTs will suffer detonation if the fuel is not up to standard, and detonation leads to this kind of thing

NAs are still prone to this, but nowhere near as much as the turbo's

LRP is has a high octane value about 98? I think. So should be OK from that point of view.

Howeve, john says that LRP would kill the Lambda sensors, to the existance of which I must confess complete ignorance.

can you explain what these are and how and why they are affected?

Sorry to be such a dunce!

OH!!!!! To be thick, why? Is it because they have similar internals but much more power, or because people run them harder?

So there is more stress on the cylinders and pistons? Oh...I see.

Ha! Just the right kind of website for me. Explaining everything in detail that even a slow wombat could understand.

Don't anyone try running on LRP!!!!

Even if you don't have cats, this stuff has nasty chemicals in it to try to replicate the effects of lead, it is well known that it is crap and causes premature wear/damage to all angines it is used in, truly s**te stuff!!, and anyway, optimax is no more expensive.

Japanese imports, weather TT or N/A should all be run on 98 fuel if possible, 95 won't give normal design power output if used!!

I had been a bit disapointed with the performance of my N/A zed, but put it down to being an auto etc... until.... today, I finally changed my air filters!!!

The old ones looked a bit dirty from the top, but when taken out and turned over!!! absolutely packed solid with thick crud!!, I'm amazed any air was getting through at all, after fitting new ones, the car is significantly faster on the uptake, must have released about 30bhp I reckon!!

Oh, and I can recommend wix filters, very good fit/quality, look exactly like the nissan filters but cheaper.

I'd recommend anyone who hasn't already, check their filters asap!! :) :)

So would changing to a good air induction kit be a good idea too?

Opps... didn't mean to post that on the end of this thread!!! anyway.

Apparantly, induction kits give a little extra power, personally though, I like to keep my car the way it was built, but in superb overall condition, for me I think all this modding is a bit pointless as I'm happy with the current cars power, so I won't be getting one!

PS really nice looking car by the way, good colour!

So you cant trust rolling road figures when the car is an Auto?? what utter garbage. Come on Sraae engage brain...

According to the BP Website, Ultimate is guaranteed to be a minimum of 98RON in the UK.

Thanks Ajay,

That would seem to make more sence if it is infact the proper figure.

Still seems to be a few people not rating it though. I guess the cost might have something to do with it.

Come on BP, don't price ya self outta the market!

Justin

Optimax all the way for me, I get better MPG too.
