Hi all,

 

I have just bought a UK spec TT Auto J Reg ('90). I hear that a common problem on early model's is that the auto gearbox gets to hot. The car is a total origanal except for an alarm, should I go and get the rad changed, to stop this happening?

I'm sure that if I'm wrong the auto-boys will sythe me down, but I don't think this is a problem on UK cars, since they already have an uprate oil cooler over J-spec cars of a similar vintage.

 

Also, if you've got a 1990 on a J plate, something's gone wrong, as it should be '91 or '92 ...

The cooling for the auto box is not really adequate, lines become blocked and rebuilds are expensive. You really need to add an additional oil cooler. I think SE (Nisstek) do a kit, but you can source this alot cheaper. Do a search on TTNET and you should find install details.

I think the Z-Centre also do a kit.

I think the cooler on the UK Z is good enough. Most people just get a UK cooler and put it on the Import cars.

Yes - the kits that are out there are to add Euro / UK spec transmission oil cooler to J model. So if you have a UK car you should be OK.

 

Mike Feeney (MJP in Traders) knows what's what - both the Nissan spec and the aftermarket replacement if you want to be doubly sure.

In my experience and Macca's (both UK) you really want to fit an addittional cooler. If you want to mod then its essential, if you want to stop blowing boxes up whilst stock then its also essential. Unless you live in Iceland then its OK:D

 

This mod can be done cheap as chips anyway!

My auto gearbox failed at 125000 miles.

If my new one lasts that long I will be pleased

ADD A COOLER TO A UK Z!!!!

 

That's all I have to say about that..........

 

Previous Z without autobox cooler = blown autobox which ran hot

 

New Z with autobox cooler = runs so much cooler and smoother, beneficial for box.

 

I rest my case!!
