Teach me about boost controllers

Can anyone explain the benefit of "Learning curve, fuzzy logic, blah blah blah" that you get with the super dooper boost controllers that some of you have. Is 15psi not going to be exactly the same whether you use boost jets or a fancy controller.

I need a good technical reason so I can justify it when the other half discovers I have blown some more money on gadgets for the Z

Hiya Paul,

I am not very well up on all this but, I think the more expensive (clever) boost controllers can actively adjust the boost. If you have boost jets then the level is fixed. If you have a controller you can adjust how much boost at what rev range. They basically make the car more drivable I think. As far as I can tell the scramble feature will allow a higher boost setting for a short amount of time for overtaking - which shouldn't have any negative effects on your engines internals as long as its only for a short time.

Basically I can't understand why they always use such complicated words for describing simple features ???? frown.gif

Hope this helps a little - just buy her some chocolates if she gets upset and tell her that is so you can get home to your 'darling' quicker wink.gif

Basically what you can do with a boost controller is set the boost to a very precise level and it gives you full control over the boostlevel

Apart from all the bells and whistles that most BC's have, a very big difference between jets and a BC is that the boost comes in earlier and more steady then with boost-jets.

There are a lot of bc's available..the most commonly used ones in a Z are:

-Apexi AVC-R, a good but very complicated bc...you'll be busy adjusting this thing for days, before you can use it properly..installation is pretty complicated as well

-Blitz (D)SBC, a good and simple plug and play BC.has 4 adjustable boost-settings and a digital boost-gauge

-HKS EVC 4, comparable to the blitz

-Greddy Profec B, good and very simple bc..not too many bells and whistles, cheap

-HKS EVC EZ, same as Greddy, but even cheaper

Tell your other half that with a boost controller you can drive more economically, since you can turn off the boost when it's not needed. (it can make more then a 100mile difference on a full tank)

Unfortunately once you have it you can't seem to find the on/off switch anymore wink.gif
