Steve. I agree. I have always used and recomended Tomei forged pistons. However if a car is badly tuned and dets then nothing on the planet will save it.

We have a few cars here that we fitted these pistons to which to date are looking good.

On the other hand we have a Z here with a new engine which another tuner set up at 1.3 bar stock. This car has come in detting yet has not blown to bits yet. (I do not personally recommend this).

How much cash do you want to spend?

What condition is your engine components in?

How well mapped is the car?

How long is a piece of string?

My personal verdict would be why take a chance.

Cheers

When my old worn out shells crumble I'll be in touch :D

Seriously though, good points above. I'm not saying DON'T fit forged pistons, I'm saying it *can* be done without - for how long who knows? I'm willing to find out, and also look the fool if it happens sooner but I'm willing to try. On the other hand, I do all my own work, but if you rely on garages then maybe the cheaper option in the long term is the forged pistons. In the long run I will be sorting the bottom end but only so I can run higher RPM. Whether that comes sooner or later, it should be interesting to find out.... ;)

One point that is for sure though, I won't be boring the block - not the best castings in the world and shouldn't really be bored out until they've been x-rayed to check for cylinder wall thickness...

CheerZ,

Andy
