I realise a true sportscar should be manual, but I don't mind either to be honest....and where I live an auto makes life so much easier due to the number of speed bumps that the friggin council insist on putting down......

What are the auto boxes like ? any problems to look out for, anyone ever replaced one ? what kind of price are they if they do go ?

Cheers

Oh boy..

If you do a search, you can see some of the monumental arguements caused by that question. ;)

I have an auto box and Im happy with it. However, if it died, I would replace it with a manual.

Maybe its the way I drive, but Im still getting used to an auto box 10 months after buying the car.

I have an auto box also but just to be different if mine went up the swanny I would opt for a fast road rebuild probably by SE as there are some very good reports on this.

Manual boxes are pants and their owners are in denial

;)

Leave it, just leave it.... lol

First auto I ever had was Ford Explorer ( 4ltr  )......so a Z is small :D but I took to the auto box straight away.....once I got out of the habit of stamping the floor with my left foot....

Going back to a manual was wierd....but I like both....

I like both, I have an auto but I wish I had found a manual (I think!)

Had my autobox rebuilt about 2 months back, cost me £1200 for a full standard rebuild.

That reminds me, I gotta take the car back for a cheque up!!!

Bugger, gotta dash but I do love the auto, well, love the whole bloody car to be honest!:D

My penny worth!

Ive always had manual!

Until I got the Z! I am not going back to manual EVER!!!

I love my AUTO Rebuild last year £1400.

Arthur

autos are for girls, OAP's & the mentally challenged

zed autoboxes are very good

nuff said. When one day I buy my very own zed itll probably be an auto, i like the laziness tbh :p

If you really don't mind driving an auto then it doesn't matter which one you buy.

I've driven both versions of the Zed and TBH there was little to chose in the performance department. I'm not into 0-60 times as that is no real indication of how useable the performance is. In fast A or B road driving (most of my motoring) overtaking speed is far more relevant. Both versions are seriously quick compared to the majority so-called performance cars.

I chose an auto simply because the best all round Zed i saw happened to be auto and I'm happy with that choice. It has outpaced a manual 3000GTO twin turbo 0-60 and a porsche 928 in the 50-100+ to name but a few.

Be warned, the speed can become addictive...........!

Drive a few cars and take your pick:)

One thing all forum members will agree on, the zed is a truly great car:D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

C'mon Macca get your thread lcking tool round this one before it ends in tears!!!!;)

Whilst its still open i might aswell put my 2p's worth in.

Auto's are prob the most common in 300zx, but more and more manuals are appearing these days.

Auto boxes are reliable generally, if they atre J spec an aftermarket oil cooler kit is worth its weight in gold.

My previous zed had no cooler, within 6 weeks the auto box cooked, my current zed has a cooler and nearly 18 months of ownership and no autbox probs so far!!(touch wood).

Looking into the history of my car a couple of months after comming to the uk this suffered an autobox faliure and it was replaced and a cooler fitted at a total cost of nearly £1.5k in jan 2000.

Auto's!!!! hang on i'll just get me flat cap, barber jacket and better go to the loo before i go out, my bladder isnt what it used to be oh and dont forget to put the checked blanket in the car :D

The only difference in autos/man is in town or country lanes. Town driving - auto best, on country lanes - manual!

So what's the big deal really!!!!!!!

Geoff.
