Ok, I like my cars......I have 2 MR2s at present, would like a Supra TT, but first I would like a 300z in my collection...

I am torn between a TT or N/A 300z, I don't want a Z to race or to mod ( engine wise ) but just for the look of the car and because of what it is .....as such I am considering an N/A

I have seen excellent examples of N/As for around the 3k / 4k mark...my question is what are they like performance wise ?

Obviously they are a big heavy car, what kind of 0-60 / bhp figures are we talking in standard form ? I don't want it to be all go and no show...I can think of nothing worse than been whooped by a maxxer in a saxo

What kind of BHP gains could be squeezed from an N/A for say a grand ?

With the costs of the cars coming down all the time, the wife wants the Supra, I want a Z, but don't really want to have to run 2 TT cars as well as the Mr2s that we own.....

Make up your mind man! :D

...unless you spend a lot on a Supra you can't take the roof off. You can on a Z. Buy the na if you want 30mpg, 220+ bhp, one of the best looking cars on the road, and 14 stone lighter than a TT (still heavy though). And then take the roof off. If you analyse it, what car can you get that has a hard roof that can be removed (ie not a rag top), has 200+ bhp, looks fab, jap reliability, great dynamics, almost 4 seats and has a hatchback.

...it can't be beaten.

As for hp gain on a na, remove cats £150, some say replace the underdrive pulley and that's it.

...as you will have gathered I own a na, have done for almost 4 years noe, do about 15 to 18k miles a year in it and it's great.

good luck

Ok, maybe I should have said seriously Mod......I know some people who just buy a Turbo car because you get more BHP per £ spent gains in the modding stakes.....but that's not what I'm about......with a Twin Turbo you can really go mental modding the engine, obviously with the N/A there's only so far you can go ..all I want to know is that it won't get left for dead at the lights........and by the term race I meant run what ya brung events and trackdays etc....

Nowt wrong with outrunning the odd scrote in a Maxed Saxo now and then is there !

I hear you can make the NA to about 280/300bhp, but you are talking a lot of work, such as new cams and such. Its going to cost a lot of money.

When you do mod it I dont think you will get anywhere near the MPG of a normal NA. Infact I would think it would do worse then a Turbo.

So what's a standard N/A s 0-60 time ? 0-100 time ?

^^BUMP^^

There are different figures all over the place, but i just did a search on google, and 0-60 is about 7.1 i believe, 1/4 mile about 15.

Some of us think the only way to go is TT!

Some think the fastest is Red but the Z looks good in all colours!

Some of us love our Taga's!

All of us love our Z's!

Thats about what my TT does.....

O'dear she is not very well.

I've got the UK 2nd Edition Brochure in front of me and Nissan quote 0-62 times as 5.9 secs (manwell) and 7.5 secs (auto). These are both TT of course.

I've been in an NA as well and TBH I was still very impressed with the performance. More than enough poke to kill a Saxo and less turbo maintenance worries...

I dont Arthur...

She seems really tempramental, sometime she seems really quick and other times runs like a dog, but it never seems to pull when going over 70-80 Mph. I had a MG ZR160 give me the large one last night and we were practiaclly level pegging with me just having the edge on him. Now I am no Nigel Mansell but I should have left him for dust.

I have done all the usual ECU checks, TB's/connector cleaning but she just seems sluggish.

I need too book it in with one of the traders and get them to run a conzult on her.

My problem is that I let the looks guide my purchase and jumped in two footed (typical Librian)... I should have shopped around a bit more really.

Jock's got a Conzult over here in Croydon. I can't speak for him but if you can make it over here then maybe he can hook you up for a diagnostic...

I think we all think we might ave done better!

We learn about Z's cos we own them!

Think about it, you could ave done worse!!!

Steve

That would be fantastic. Thank you very much.

It would be nice to know what is wrong even if it's going to cost me a bit at least I can decide what I am going to do...

Again, cheers.

I agree the targas are cool, both my MR2s are T-bars......great in summer !

Do Zeds have a habit of having leaking roof panels ?

Cheers.

Get TT otherwise you'll only wish you had.

Look for one with a good history and you'll likely

be ok.

I have nothing against NA's and they dont have to sit there after a run letting the turbos spool down, but you sure cant beat the kick of a TT, especially from junctions. Pulled up at the roundabout on top of the mway on the way home, inside lane, Audi with 3 blokes in the outside lane. (Absolutley no contest, just wnated to show them what a proper car could do!!) I did one and was already leaving the next exit before he was half way round. :D

God I just love these motors!!!!

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Definitely - go for a TT - you may change your mind after and want to modd and then you'll regret that you never bought a TT.

Good luck in finding a good one. Take care!!!

Geoff.

Cheers guys........just gotta sit back now and wait for the redundancy money to come rolling in !!

Then I'm off on a hunt !
