Doing a bit of research for a customer. Do you think there is room for another car mag in the current market ? It wouldnt be set out like Jap Performance, as im most peoples eyes that is boring to say the least.

Think along the lines of a hybrid Max Power & Redline without the Saxo's. Less birds, but more quality where the cars are the stars, not the wannabe writers.

Also designed to not look like your buying a w ank mag and feeling embarrassed to even look at it.

Top quality cars from around the Country/Europe with owners clubs/members adding to the mag every month.

Is this something you would like to see ? is it something you would buy on a regular basis ?

Please post, Cheers :)

I would like to read a mag like Fast Car / Max Power, but they are so childsh.

If I want porn I am tall enough to reach for the top shelf thank you very much. I would like to read about peoples cars, without having some bimbo putting knee shaped dents on the bonet, or have to look at some ones Saxo who has spent twice the value of the car on a kit but devalued it to £0 because they have no taste and bad work.

If the mag was more on the modifying of the car and not so much on the w***ers who think they rule the world it would be interesting.

Would like to see some older cars in there too, like the Mk1 Escorts which have stupid sized engines in old type Rally cars which are still going; cars like that.

Stuart

I would personally would like to see more of a technical mag than the typical Max power sh1te.

With articles from the top tuners on things like turbo comparisons with flow graphs etc and dyno testing, engine builds, head work, paint and bodywork etc etc. After all we all modify our cars by looking around at others and talking to each other to find out what works and what looks best. Im sure the relevant people would be only to pleased to supply info on the projects they are working on as it will bring them more buisness.

Im afraid I cant get excited about some nancy boy who has splitfire plugs and a K&N in his Saxo :D

Good idea Chris.

Think 'Performance Bikes' but for cars and you might be heading down the right route.

Chris,

Of course - it's always nice to have more choice .. at the moment we've got Japanese Performance and Banzai, I guess, and they're both OK - but I'd like to see another magazine, perhaps with more detailed articles.

Often, I think the articles in JP are pretty superficial, especially when it talks about mods.

Also, it would be nice to see a magazine that linked up better with the web - perhaps with the ability to see additional pictures that didn't make the magazine, and chat to the guys involved.

BTW, are you thinking about making this Jap only, or general?

CheerZ,

JB.

I also think a good place to start is by thinking of what NOT to include.

such as

features on some brabus merc prototype that is 1000hp and costs £100000000... who cares? stick to real peoples cars.

saxos

Standard cars with a KENWOOD sticker unless its something special or rare.

any phrases like "Bad boy", "Radical", "Pumpin tunes" etc etc

millions of pages selling identicle wheels.

There needs to be a car mag that is written in the style of the bike mags. I want to know the proper technical details, not just what components they have put in the bleedin' stereo.

I want to see dyno graphs, and have some sort of commentry in the text as to how the power feels and how it is put down, what the car feels like 'on the edge'.

How well the damping and spring rates work, what sort of speeds can be carried through corners, and what 1/4 mile and top speed performance is like.

I want to know how the car compares to the standard model and what stages of upgrade the feature car went through.

Some, or a lot of this is already in the car mags, BUT the way they are written makes me want to slash my wrists with boredom before I get half way through the article!

The major difference between car mags and bike mags is that the bike mags are written not only intelligently but also WITH A SENSE OF HUMOUR!!

 Keep em coming

Yes - F&TFurious is typical stereotype of a young car enthusiast's mentality - but not typical of many, especially 300Zx owners ;)

Many lovers of performance cars have a healthy sense reality, and see beauty in a fine machine. A fast car doesn't make you a god or a sexual tyranosaurus  ......it's just nice to drive and hopefully looks good !

Hit the nail on the head!! Spot on.......although I prefer SuperBike magazine but that's just down to personal preference and history (I won the first SuperBike Ultimate Brute Horsepower shoot-out they did in the mag with my GSX-R:D ) I don't mind the tits in SuperBike either, because it's done in a different way to Lax Power etc.

Some tech stuff's a definite must. With CCC gone there's no real hands on stuff in any magazines I've seen for ages.

That's OK Nelson, I'll still talk to you!:D ;) My old GIXER750 managed to pump out 118 rwhp when it was new and standard back in 1992, so I got a few piccies in the mag and a two year subscription. It was a fun day out!:)

I'm an old aspirant so my jiz-mag of choice is EVO. Max Power is not interesting to me at all, being for children and misogynists. I also read the Economist and, occasionally, Edge magazine..

Would this just be for Japanese cars? It is Japanese cars which are mostly modified as they are the easiest, but I get sick of reading about Hondas, Lexus, Toyota etc. all the time.

I know they are a little boy racer but the Cosworths are a very good car. Dont forget about Audis, Lancias, BMW (!spit!), Lotus. And to a lesser extent Vauxhall and like them.

I would like to see cars like that too.

Stuart

Good suggestions, i think it will be all turbo'd & high power cars, but will get a confirmation on this.

Sounds about right...

I remember the days of REVS and the like, they were all on older cars, affordable, modable motors that anyone could look at and enjoy...

Then, as always, it degrade's itself to XXX sh*te!!!

As already said in this thread, if I want porn, I'll buy it...

To be honest it would have to depend what the content is on how popular it is..

I read EVO, but find it a little out of my league these days....

Can't remember having £170,000 in my back pocket :D

Would be very interested at what would be suggested though...

Cheers

Ben
