Bought my Zed about 2 months ago now.

Had a few niggles and they have been sorted (with a lot of guidence from you guys/gals) but one problem remains...

When applying lots of pedal she will go like a rocket, but on other occasions (more often than not) it definatley has a lot less power and has no real kick.

Also when just applying a little bit of pedal it sounds as if the engine is doing quite a bit of work but not pulling much. Again this is intermitent....

I have tried all the usual cleaning of sensors, TB's etc. and the ecu diag returned 55.

It is quite difficult to explain the problem and really need (beg)someone to give her a drive...

Anything else I can try?.

She is a Auto and is completly stock.

Cheers.

Are you doing this when you car is not upto full operational temperatre?

Below that temperature the turbo boost is turned down and the timing retarted which will make the car feel like its not moving.

Dont worry about the sound. Does it sound good? Then stop complaining. ;)

It maybe the exhaust. At 2000rpm my exhaust is really loud and if I am just cruising round town its really loud. It actually get quieter the faster I go or if I am accelerating.

Stuart

I never give her a good thrashing until the temp is up to normal.

It is a really annoying issue as like I said it is itermitent which I gues would point in the direction of a loose/dirty connection somewhere.

Any clues on how much it would cost for someone to give the car a good run and diag on the engine?...

Cheers Stu.

Try to find some one with a ConZult software.

You may be detonating on these times which it is feeling slow and going to safty boost which has the same effect as when your engine is cold.

I driven my dad's Auto Galant and sometimes when you floor that is seems fast and other times it doesnt do anything. It may just be where you are in the rev rance. Some timesthe box changes down a gear some times it doesnt, some times the box lets the revs rise before doing anything some times it doesnt.

Stuart

Thanks mate.

Damn I knew I should have waited for a manual (I don't want to start a debate here guys). But I do like the laziness of a Auto.

Conzult anyone?. Will pay £ or more likely to get a responce, BEER..

On automatics there is a kick down switch on under the accelerator. Make sure you press the throttle down all the way and hard to activate the switch.

Typical! It went fine when you took me out in it!! :) Definitely not safety-boost ..

Stuart, surely we'd have seen the daig code if there was a problem with det sensor, doesn't the ECU store the code 'til you check it?

I am not sure whether the ECU will show a det sensor code if detonation has occured and will still show after turning the car off and on. I thought it only gives you a code if the det sensor is faulty. I may be wrong though.

He he. Yeah like when you go to the dentist eh!...

Though it seems to have gotten worse since your experience. And the top end power seems to suck aswell, I have a feeling I might be worth a trip down to one of the traders to try and get this sorted.

I guess you can't pinch the pennies all the time with these cars.

Must say I was mighty impressed with your Z jon, both speed and looks... (have you washed it yet, lol).

Let me know the outcome on this, I have very similar problem, seems like most the time its just fast, but sometimes, im pinned back in my seat. Mines UK Auto and only had mine for two months.

Erm, no! :D

I wanted to make sure it looked really dirty before it's trip to PPS, for maximum effect in the before and after photos (well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). ;):D

Cheers for the kind words, hope you get the problem sorted soon - perhaps you could try getting hold of Darren at Aylesford Nissan .. he's supposed to be a whizz.

Will do matey. I will keep you posted on anything I find out.

Its just a thought but does the car seem ok when you drive with the power switch on with the auto box , because you said it seem to rev but not seem to get anywhere , i just wonder if there was a difference because the auto won`t change into forth if this switch is on , and there are a few anomillys ,christ i cant spell that, anyway there are with this box , with the hold switch etc.Has it got a modded cooler on the transmission upfront because it needs it ,,,,,,,your engine could be fine , it could be your transmission,,,,,,whats the state of your fluid ?,,,,Is the transmission tunnel getting hot ?, ,,, Does it happen after a long trip at high constant speed?........:slap:

Funny, mine changes into 4th with the power switch on. If you have your right foot pinned to the floor, then you just dont change till about 130mph.

Not that Ive ever travelled that fast on a public road. No, this was on a race track.

Errrm.. ;)

Anyway, just to try and add something helpful, mine was like this a couple of weeks ago. I cleaned the TBs, reset the ECU and had an oil and filter change done.

Still seemed a bit odd. Jeff had a look at the timing, loa and behold, timing was out a little. Timing got changed and now everything is as sweet as a nut. :)

Thanks for all the tips guys.

I need to get someone to look at the timing etc and run a conzult really as I don't think I will ever find the problem(s). I know I need some PCV valves as my oil is starting to smell bad and looks contaminated.

I have done the usual PTU connector, TB's, fule filter etc.

And no I do not have a bigger cooler for my transmission and yes it does tend to get a bit hot down there.

Cheers.
