Woo hoo i'm in west sussex, and just rebuilt my engien!!

I found it easyer to remove the engine then the heads to be honest!

I cant take the engine out as i dont have the room, tools etc etc:( where abouts in west sussex are you? ill be needing help putting all these pipes back on;)

Its a small village called Heyshot and its just up the road from midhurst, and chichester!

If you want a hand then feel free to drop me a line m8

my number is 07961004587

Cheers I might just do that! Im down in burgess hill, im also new to the Z having bought one that needed the head gasket changing so thats what im doing;) it had the top air chambers already stripped as well as the plug leads etc so im not sure where all the wires/pipes go! doh:rolleyes:

Plug leads???? the Zed dont have any???

i know but all the plugs that goto the plugs...... kinda pluggy leads.......

my msn is nightwolf70@hotmail.com so add me if you have it:D

not 100% sure but I think you do have to take the engine out to get the heads off. Check with andy duff or someone.

Nothings straightforward on a Z

Paul

well as i've said before if you need help i'm willing to help!

You can get the heads off without pulling the engine but apparently it's a pain in the arse !!!.

I spoke to duffer about this before I got mine done. IIRC he said something like the time it takes to remove the heads with the engine in ... it would have been quicker to take the engine out and do it.

I know but I dont have a garage OR a driveway so im limited for room!:(

if you are that stuck for room, go for it in the car. if someone else can do it, you can too. just have patience and a good workshop manual to hand. dont forget it may be a pain, but it is possible so sooner or later it will be done. just dont try to rush a pain job as this usually costs more than it achieves. good luck. si.;)

forgot to mention... im probably gonna be doing this job in a month or two's time as im having larger turbos and want to upgrade the head gaskets and studs while im there. being honest, its a tight squeeze, but looks relatively straight forward for the job. i've seen worse cars to work on. (like the caterham 7 with the turbo'd rover V8)!!!!!:D

You picked a terrible time of year to be working outside!!

You'll need some fingerless gloves and someone to

bring you hot beverages.

Y not beg, borrow, rent a garage?

its all gone ok so far, literally just got down to the manifold/turbo problem...i havent a clue what im gonna do now as all the bolts are in impossible place! looks like a fun day ahead.......

you know it ALWAYS seems to be this time of year when you start doing this kind of job...anybody noticed that??;)

for hard to reach stuff, make sure you have the best tools for the space in that tight engine bay. a 1/2" drive may not be as usefull as a 1/4". a word of warning, though... if you are going to use a smaller drive to do/undo bigger bolts (head studs, etc) use a good quality set as cheaper ones tend to round things or break. also, dont forget spanners can reach a lot that sockets cant and vice-versa. good hunting. si.;)

and, yeah. if you have to work outside, its always in a pool of oil in the rain with a thousand cut knuckles.

seems to make it more worth it when you finish, though.

aye it does! I think the best way to do it is undo the 3 bolts on the exhaust to turbo then pull the whole lot up with the turbos attatched...in fact it looks the ONLY way!

SOunds like a good idea to me although you might struggle to get at the oil/water pipes to/from the turbo.

Best of luck with it

ive done more searching than stripping!;) ive already read that page but its very limited in its explanation of getting it all out!:(

Its only easy because i aint doing it. If you were closer i'd pop round to lend a hand, but i think you are about 130miles away? Still, you have my moral support and im sure everyone else's on here. hope it all goes well. si.

haha cheers! well if it doesnt go well then ill have parts to sell real soon!!:p
