Driving home for lunch in my manual Jap 300zx, I moved the gear lever into third and it suddenly dropped a couple of inches. I managed to get home okay, but the lever 'bounced' every time I changed gear.

On getting home I took the centre console off to have a quick look. It appears that something has snapped, leaving the gear lever 'floating'.

Does anyone know what I mean, and if so how do I repair it? Is this going to be easy, can I glue it/replace it? Please don't tell me I need a new gear box as it still changes through the gears fine.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It will be the small bolt that comes up through the floor to hold the gearstick assemblly up in place. If its snapped you will just have to replace it. It might be a welded in bolt but I cant remember exactly in which case just drill out whats left and fit a new nut and bolt

Thanks Paul.

I'm going to open it all up and have a proper look at the weekend.
