Now it's stalling....

Hi you ever so helpfull lot,

Today the car has been a pain in the rear end, it's an auto but when I switch it from Park to Drive or Reverse the revs drop and feels like it's gonna conk out, also for the first time today it stalled when stopping but when went to restart it just keeps turning over but not starting, then when it did actually start up the Power light on the dash kept flashing for a short while, another thing was whenever I go to put foot down when pulling away the revs dropped again.........really annoying me now.

Yesterday the car was revving at 3,000 revs at 50 mph, usually this should be about 2,000, could this all to do with one problem does anyone think.

Any help would be great chaps,...........Rich

Check the alternator drive belt tension, maybe slack. I had the Park to Drive problem you describe and it turned out to be the drive belt tension. By the sound of the other problems you describe they could also be symptoms of a slack alternator drive belt.

thanks for that m8, dont like lookin under the hood to often cos looks too complicated :(

Now Hicas light is permently on, i give up. rear axel when goin around corner feels like its leaving the car cos keeps jolting, shits me up sometimes.

With your hicas light, first try topping up the steering fluid, if that sorts it well done, if not get ready to batter the wallet!!!!

Cheers for that m8, had to check it today cos all of a sudden my power stearing was going, checked fluid and hardly anything in there, filled it up to proper level but one of the hoses coming from it is leaking, cant tighten the clip around it any more so will have to do something else.

The problem with the rear jolting like it does though is really started to scare me, think its gonna fall to bits on me......HELP

where r u in soton matey???

Hi there, i'm from Totton matey, see a very nice silver beast with bodykit and nice wheels in totton yesturday, was it anyone on here? was behind you in totton town center, think it was a H plate.

yep, twas me, only noticed u when u pulled into lidl's, I carried on into town, im in totton too (getting very common round here now!!!)

You, me, 'voldermort' on here sometimes, and some miserable old fart in a cream one who WITHOUT EXCEPTION has never so much as acknowledged me, i've flashed, waved several times - grumpy old git.

I am in no way a mechanic, use a specialist garage elsewhere, but more than willing to have a look at her if you so wish, just let me know.......

Oh so it was you, felt well annoyed cos yours is kitted up and mine is standard, anyway i will take you up on your offer to have a look at it, well i need you to drive it really so you can feel the jolt, where abouts you go for repairs etc cos dont really want to take it to Nissan?

When's the best time for you to meet me somewhere to see if you can figure it out?

Cheers

hi rich, not a problem, wednesdays are good for me, in the evening should be best - about 6ish, ill mail my moby so we can

sort it.

IMHO DONT go to new way at redbridge, used to have a good mech there who actually KNEW the zed engine, but after he left, the girlie on the counter actually had never heard of the 300zx/z32/fairlady etc, so a fair warning i would say.

have only ever used zedworld who advertise on here, owner is a right royal pain in the ass to get hold of, even bigger pain in the ass to get to, but i can only ever speak as i find and has always done a good job. usually needs the car for a week, so train home and train back jobbie, but worth it. having said that, i believe there is a good garage in bournemouth that some people have used who know the zed, so do a search and all shall become clear.

oh, dont worry about kitting it, yep, looks good, BUT GET THE BLOODY THING RUNNING RIGHT FIRST, and money left LOL should be spent on kitting, no good looking like the dogs danglies, and detting/leaking/blowing/stalling etc all day long.

see ya wednesday......

Ok, will await your mobile number then.........Cheers

How did you get on with the stalling prob? Was it the alternator drive belt?

Hi Peter,

Stalling prob has gone away now but revs do still drop and think it is gonna stall wen shifter is put in to drive or reverse, the prob with the Hicas light coming on was a hole in one of the power stearing hoses, when on full lock it pissed out so had one made up instead of buying a new part.

This rear jolting prob is still freakin me out tho, Darren i tried calling you and text you but no reply, please let me know another day you are free.

Cheers

clean the old throttle position switch

Er, where do i find that, im not that clued up at all with these cars so please be patient.

Anyone know what the revs is meant to be at at idle? mine seems to be quite over the 1000 revs.

Cheers again.

Yep I would suggest the cleaning the connector on the TPS (black box bolted onto the passenger side of the Plenum), then also clean your throttle boddies, then finally reset your ECU.

This will sort out the majority of your hesitation problems.

May sound stupid, whats a Plenum? mine is jap import with battery on the passenger side, is this the same on all Z's?
