Anyone know if they flash at night when they catch you, or if they're just infra-red ?

Also, do they have film in them, like GATSOs, or are they digital ?

Cheers !

Looking at a picture of one, they dont look like they have a flash.

They also dont work with radar so detectors wont find them.

ok this may be bolox but I believe they are not infra red, I think they just have a blue filter placed over the flash to stop it blinding oncoming traffic.

So hopefully I'd still see some action if it was on when I shot past it ?:hyper:

I hope you're right mate cheers !

And yeah, you're right Stuart - they work from sensors under the road, hence why my detector didn't warn me

Still kickin myself though, cos I remember now someone told me they were putting cameras up there

Truvelos us an infra-red "flashgun" so it doesnt distract the driver,it calibrates your speed using piezo road speeds, these strips are set apart on a know distance and as you go over them the time between the compression of the first, then 2nd strip is measured to give the speed of the vehicle.

So if theres isnt 3 lines preceeding the camera its a dummy ( if its a truvelo that is)

oh yeah as for the detectors, the way to go is GPS detectors - good ones will warn you of the truvelo and even S.P.E.C.S as they go on location instead of detecting the output source -

DEPENDS - if you get a S6-R NEO OR ROAD PILOT OR ROAD ANGEL

these have radar and laser capabilties so they are gps and radar/laser.best ones to get IMO you pays your moneys you get what you want.Including picking up mobile traps

I know there was a lot of misinformation spread about these cameras being infra red when they were first released, the original versions just had a blue filter. this would probably disguise the flash so you may not see it.

let us know how you get on....... these cameras are worrying

You do know they only have 14 day sto prosecute in the form of an NIP + 3 DAYS are allowed for postage.so If you recieve this NIP after this period it is invaid : use the following letter template :

Dear Officer ******,

CVVVVVVVV - Notice of Intended Prosecution

I received your letter dated *********, the references for which are detailed above. I have enclosed a copy of the Notice sent to me recently, for ease of cross-reference.

You have written to me because I am the Registered Keeper of the vehicle mentioned in your Notice. My address is correct as per the details at DVLC, and the vehicle was not a Company car, and was neither hired nor borrowed.

No Officer spoke to me at the time of the alleged offence, and no accident took place. Also, no Police person has spoken with me at or near the time and place detailed in your Notice. The written Notice is the first indication from you of any intention to prosecute.

Your Notice details the alleged offence as VV:VVhrs on *********. The Notice is dated ********, and it came to me by post, received on ********. At the time of opening the mail item from you, I signed and dated the Notice in a space at the top of the page.

Including the day of the alleged offence, this was **th day from the date detailed in your Notice.

Following discussions with my solicitor, please note that the Notice cannot be acted upon as it is time-expired. For this Notice to have been valid, it ought to have been with me within 14 days of the alleged offence.

It was suggested I write back to you immediately with these comments.

Yours sincerely

VVVVVVVVV

Registered Keeper

ALso might be worth going back to the spot and seeing if there where any piezo markers on the road - if there isnt then you should be home dry as long as the camera was defo a Truvello

Good luck

nice one - cheers mate !

what are piezo markers though ?

Its like 3 sort of er....lines on the road which you drive over - Im gonna try and dig out a pic for ya so you can see for yourself.

Try and post a pic of the camera if its local - at least we can establish if it is a genuine Truvello and not something else.

picture of truvello to follow. . . . .

piezo lines - I have found the pic but the site wont let me attach images - lob me your email address and I will send you the jpeg

Well they don't acrually need to mark the road anymore as they can now bury the sensors in the tarmac, as they have done with the latest installation of a Truvelo camera on the A20 in Ashford.

nice one tim - did read about this somewhere but didnt realise they had already started - can you still see them in the tarmac is you walk passed ? IE what do you have to look for I am presuming this are still visible

Yes you can see them, but only just, I guess the only safe thing to do is to treat them all as 'real'.

But I must say that this particular camera gets my thumbs up. It is place exactly where speed cameras should be, in a town 50m from a school enterance, anyone speeding in these circumstances deserves a ticket IMHO.

Like it's possible to speed past a school in the morning...

Sorted - found a piccy myself, cheers !

Didn't notice if it had them or not :(

Guess I'll just have to hope I don't get any nasty surprises through the letterbox

Cheers mate !

PS. how's the RLTC working out for you ?

Reading that link it might be time to black out my windows ! ;)

Have to say I've never seen a speed trap outside a school - I'm shocked. Like you say though I've no concerns with having them there !

The one last night was a twin lane road with no houses or shops anywhere near. Should be classified as a dual carriageway but they've set the limit at 40, presumably to make more money with their trap

The Truvelos I have seen have all been facing the oncoming traffic. How do these work for Motorbikes??? I was told they are illegal bec they fail to catch Motorbikes. It's an interesting thought...

Phil.

"I'm a fraud. A poor, lazy, sexy fraud."

I posted a note about a group buy on Road Angel's with Lazer detectors on this forum, they think about £200.00 inc a life time subscription. Very Cheap.

Also the lines are conductive loops. what ever that is.

In Ride magazine a while back they suggested you DO NOT SIGN the NIP, send it back unsigned, something about making your sellf a witness. might be on a web site.

Do you just get a NIP if they plan to take you to court, or when they're just gonna give you a fixed penalty ?

Reckon I probably braked quick enough to get me within about 10 or so of the limit (I love APs ! :D ) once I saw it.

And now you come to mention it I did see something about Dwight Yorke getting off that way :) Ta !

Do you just get a NIP if they plan to take you to court, or when they're just gonna give you a fixed penalty ?

The NIP is " Notice of Intended Prosecution" - this needs to arrive with you in 14 days of the offence (+3 days postage MAX)

The NIP in relation to traffic offence prosecution gives you the choice of admitting liability and asks you to name the driver OR take it to court to argue the point.
