OK - when I get my Zed, I'm going to have some nice security fitted.. I was thinking of a Clifford Concept 600, and maybe a tracker.. What are peoples opinions on trackers? Anyone know if it makes any noticeable difference to your insurance premiums?

Does anyone know if Clifford still do the turbo timer option on their alarms too? Would save the hassle of trying to get a Blitz timer to work with the alarm (although.. I do rather lik the Blitz full auto timer (or was that the HKS one... ))..

Hints, tips? Is it possible to get Blitz/HKS timers to work with a Concept 600 - anyone done it?

Cheers smile.gif

Clifford Concept 600 is a good unit, does have Turbo Timer built in as well as loads of other bits and pieces.

Tracker are all the same really with 2 basic choices. 1 the system where you car goes missing and you call the control centre and they then start looking for your car or the "live" system that watches your car 24 hrs and they contact you if your car is moved without the tracker being switched off. This is the better option and you are looking at about £400.00 fitted plus about £10.00 a month to the control centre.

If you are interested in Clifford drop me a line and i`ll do a good deal.

I have a LazerLine 996 on my Z, very good all round, cost me £300 from Harry's (Halfords) came to my house to fit it, Has boot, Bonnet, Doors and handles, all round wavey type thing in the car (senses vibration in the car, No magic trees then!) and has a double immobiliser (Starter, fuel and engine) Also has a panic thing on it, if someone does get into the Z and get it started before I go out and hit with me baseball bat....I press the panic button on my remote and cuts everything dead apparently.

Trackers are personal choice and where you live really, I don't have one fitted (shhh) and it would have only dropped my insurance by £10, so I didn't bother. You may think different.

As I said personal choice.

Thanks Matt & Stuart - you both replied while I was emailing Bob smile.gif

Thanks for the info tho.. I will be looking round in earnest, not to mention checking with any ins. companies I call as to whether they do discounts for tracker equipped vehicles..

Hi Az

I have a Toad Cat one immobilizer and alarm on my car and also a HKS Turbo Timer. The alarm will not lock whilst the turbo timer is counting down, but i always look on this as an opportunity to stand around pertend im doing something else whilst my car shuts itself down, the flick the ...ahhh bollocks im rambling agian.....

you know what i mean...

Glen

I checked with the insurance companies last year and was told that security discount was only 5%. All that is required for this is a Cat 1 alarm. They all agreed that you could put whatever else you liked on it (tracker... steering locks, wheel clamps etc..) and no matter how many you had on there.. no-one will offer a greater discount. So...I just went for the clifford.

Let me know if you find someone that goes againt this... but I don't think you will.

I have a Serpi Star (Italian made I think) Cat 1 as installed by Braybrooks of Hertford. They also did my stereo at the some time (but this is no Tooley style system!)

They did an excellent job and the alarm has behaved perfectly for nearly three years now.

It's got all the gizmos you expect and would even close the windows, fold in the mirrors etc, if I had those options fitted.

I have been spending a lot of time with my local Car Audio and Alarm place at the mo. They have a deal with RAC Trackster. (Same as Tracker, just different company). They can supply and fit one of these trackers for £569, but this includes a lifetime subscription for the service (no monthly charge) - even if you change vehicles you can take it with you. Not bad eh....

Yup must agree with Jayen, all insurance were interested in were Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser, not a tracker the saving didn't warrent the buying of one.

I did mention to them that I had a Disc Lock (you know them full steering wheel locks) I bought it because I got it half price and in silver and black (compliments my Z) and they gave me £15 off my premium.

Insurance are only interested in deterants, not something that will find your car once it has been stolen and more than likely trashed.

Don't forget to buy a disc lock!! (Major peice of mind, it takes me all my time to get it off and I have a key!)

Hey Az,

I got my self a top of the line Cobra number (Cat 1 & double immobilizer). I had the standard ultrasonic sensors replaced by microwave ones so that I can leave the t-tops off and still arm the alarm. Flies and other shit that blows through then doesn't set off the alarm. However, if someone reaches in then all hell breaks loose. I also fitted a tracking system called eGuard by a company called Telematix (www.telematix.co.uk). They monitor the car 24/7 and it cost me £400 to install & £160 per year for the subscription. It's a bit of money but they have a 99% recovery rate in the UK (within 30 minutes) - now that's peace of mind! The good bit about this system is that it also works across Europe so if the bastards do manage to get your car on a boat, it can be picked up on the otherside of the Channel.

All in all these security devices reduced my insurance (Privilege) by about £250. Not bad. Oh yeah, the tracking device is portable, so if you change cars it can be taken out of your Zed and placed in your new vehicle.

Let me know if you need more info.

Cheers!

Danny

Matty - I've got a silver/black Disc-Lok as well and I tend to find it easier putting it on sideways, so the keyhole is more accessible just by opening the door than attemtping to locate it whilst contorting your hand underneath the windscreen. smile.gif

I want one of these...

Thatcham cat Q...whatever that means...Supra guyZ were doing a group buy on these recently.
