I noticed my car has wheel spacers on the front, about 7 or 8mm thick. Did the 300zx import come standard with these spacers ?

None on the back though.

Cheers

I put 8mm ones on the fronts of mine - to fit the aftermarkets alloys over the bigger front calipers. The previous owner of yours probably did the same. Have you got nonstandard wheels?

No, I have standard Nissan rims, should I take the spacers off ?

Strange

Maybe there have been different alloys on at some stage, then originals put back on.

I would take them off, the wheels should fit back on fine, unless you've got bigger front brakes? I think spacers should really be avoided if unnecessary.

All IMO of course ;)

Thanks Pete,

The brakes look standard (they are Nissan) so I will try it without the spacers

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take them off mate, my wheel came off coming off a roundabout last night due to there not being enough bolt on nut, very embarrassed but dont want the same to happen to anyone cos it could have been all lot worse if I was going quicker  I have (had) 8mm spacers - well one is broken into little pieces now...

Massive thanks to Jeff for sorting me out very late last night, and to Berks for the phonecalls.

Pete if you need need to get hold of some longer studs MJP do Nismo ones to take spacers, however Mike said they were around £8 each:eek:

Better than your wheels comin off though:rolleyes:

In defence of spacers, mine have been fine (touch wood) with longer studs....

take em off.... you don't want your wheels falling off:eek:

Me and Pete both know how it feels...

spacers are fine as long as your wheels are sitting where they should be and your bolts are long enough,

if not the wheel nuts shear off, and its f**king scary

it can happen at any time ... better to be safe than dead

It's hearsay only but I've heard that spacers can cause wheel bearings to wear quicker :(

If you can convince me otherwise though I'd love to get some 'cause I've only got about a mil clearance over my AP calipers. Either that or I'll have to stump up for 18s eventually

I guess spacers move the load exerted by the car on the axles etc further from the pivots ie the wheels (or the pivots further from the load of course ;) ) so they will put more stress on bearings IMO.

I doubt it has *that* much effect though, certainly not as much as tearing round corners regularly ;)

Oh well, hopefully I'll be getting calipers and alloys refurbed as well as the buckled wing panel swapped and sprayed if necessary, and the longer bolts :). So my car should come out nicer than before :D

Cheers

Pete

whats the biggest size wheel spacer can we get on the rear of the car without applying to much strain on the car for example would 1 and 1/2 inch be taking the piss or could i get away with it
