Turbo replacement

Is it next to impossible to remove the turbos from under the car?

I think i'm going to replace mine to see if they're the cause of my no power at high revs, but i don't want to remove the engine, it's not practical where i live.

I'm going to try jacking her up tonight and checking it out but am i stupid even thinking about it?

It can be done;) However the reason for changing the turbos with the engine out,Is to eliminate manifold problems.

If you have a manual you can drop the box and get them out from there, you may have to cut down a few spanners though.

I wouldn't suggest doing it on axle stands though, you're gonna need a proper pit or lifter.

FAR FAR FAR easier if you pull the engine. Pull it with the box still attached - saves a huge ball ache when puttin it all back together ;)

It is possible from underneath but I think you'd be better pulling the engine...

How could u get it out with box attached, ud need to have one mighty angle!

Reason i wasn't to keen on removing engine was my drive is very steep so car work i usually do in the garage. Trouble is there isn't really enough height to fit an engine hoist in there, fine i can fit it in, but to raise the arm high enough to get engine out without scrapping car?? Hmm..

If i spend time on it, non stop, not a single break inbetween, how long do you think it would take? (Using engine out method.)

Cheers boys

LOL

You get the engine out with box by dropping the front subframe slightly - absolute doddle, 9 bolts I think.

First time engine out you're probably lookin around 10 hours, then say 4 to fit the tubs - take your time, then back in again another 10 hours.

Those times may be a little optimistic, depends how well you know your zed ;)
