While it was great to see some awesome cars in action the event itself was crap considering it costs £20 per person just to get in.

First of all there was no timing boards like they use at Trax so you couldnt see what times or speeds that the cars were doing. All they had was a naff PA system that you couldnt hear or understand unless you stood under the loudspeaker. Also there should have been some handouts or a simple programme available so you could see what clubs and cars were running to make it a little more interesting. There was nothing in the way of trade stands or anything of interest laid on for you to look at unless you wanted to buy a burger or a back issue of Japanese performance mag.

Redline magazine must make a killing out of this not only do they charge £20 to watch but the people providing the entertainment (competitors) pay as well so Redline do nothing except sit back and count the cash.

This sort of event could be organised via the web forums and done much better without some magazine running the show, im sure the owners of the airfield can give a price for hire of the track, timing gear and marshalling for the day.

Was that £20 per car to spectate, or £20 per person?

oops, I've just re-read your post and therefore retract this question

Per person:(

Two in my Z £40 to get in,behind me was a Nova with 5 lads in £100 FFS LOL:D

Dont forget that if you organised this event yourselves you would have all the other associated costs such as public liability insurance etc.

Just proves how such great value events like Billing really are!:D

Definitely! :D

Yep, I can understand the feelings, we get exactly the same as this with the big Triumph Cars even I run in the summer. We charge £8 pp/per day or £15 pp/w/e.

But as has already been said there are a lot of expenses to cover. Hire of venue being the main one.

We just about break even over a w/e with 3,500 - 4,000 visitors, at Stafford County Showground.

I looked at hiring Brands hatch for an evening a while back, it worked out at approx £3000 for about 3 hrs!! But we used to hire Castle Combe for £4500 per day, depending on the number of marshalls needed, even Kemble was nearly £2K for a day.

Whatever you do it isn't cheap, Billing is excellent VFM IMHO.

Hi guys,

Just to clarify what someone said about Redline above, I would just like to make it clear that Redline was a Media Partner with Ten of the Best, which meant that we made no money whatsoever from the event. In fact, it cost us money to help with the show.

We were simply trying to help make the event an ongoing success, and it was never our intention to make a quick buck.

That said, I understand there has been some negative feedback regarding the cost of the event. All I can say is that TOTB is an event which has the potential to grow and grow, and that feedback such as this will be considered for future shows.

At the end of the day TOTB is an event run by enthusiasts, so if you feel you have any comments which could make future events more enjoyable then I'm sure that Simon at TOTB and Chris Mann of the 200+ Club would be happy to hear from you.

Cheers,

Dan

Sorry for pointing the finger at Redline magazine its just that with such little presence of any organisation or information people did assume that Redline was running the show due to your logo being used around the event and advertising.

I too think this could be a great event if it was like the JAE at Billing with camping, club areas and trade stands. I had a fantastic 2 days and nights at Billing for £6 and that included camping so I did not enjoy an afternoon trying to make out the times over a crackling loudspeaker for £20.

If Redline did not make any money out of this then you want to ask for a cut because someone did. There was a hell of a lot of people there at 20 quid a time :D

Paul

I only went to one of the earlier quarter/semi finals and I thought that £6 was a rip-off when there was nothing but a burger van and some timing lights!

£20 is a joke IMHO

Paul> no worries mate. Didn't take it personally, I just didn't want Redline to get a bad name for summat we didn't do. :) I can see where you're coming from.

Chris> Again, I can see where you're coming from. I don't know the exact details of how much TOTBII cost to run, but I don't think anyone made as much money from it as you think.

:)
