Stability is good, when compared with my previous (completely knackered) S-03's

Straightline grip in wet seems ok, but lateral traction is rubbish - slides all over the place when you least expect it and very sensitive to different road surfaces. My shagged S-03's had more grip in the wet ...

Seem quieter from a road noise perspective though.

I feel the same about the Goodrich I have. Floor it and it grips really wel. Go round corners and you can feel it slide and you can hear them squeel.

I dont care what people say about them, the Bridgestone SO2 are the best tyre I have had.

All I have to say is...

GY Eagle F1s GS D3

A fantastic tyre all round, the only time I've found it lacking was in the snow, and then it was terrible I have them fitted on both my Escort and the Zed.

I have the so3s and I love them, Even with the 19 inch rims and the 30 sidewall I think they drive smoother then my stock size goodyear ultra grip tires

Its the old addage...you pays yer money... :)

I found them quite good (on a different car) FOR THE MONEY.

As you will know, the s-03 will have cost a fair amount more.

Regards

Thats for sure they cost me almost $2900. canadian.

Andy,

it's really worth playing about with the tyre pressures. Found I had to drop mine a bit, but once I found the right level they're superb ;)

I'm running 245 & 255 45 17s at 33 front and 35 rear, which is lower than the pressures for the standard wheel/tyre setup, I seem to recall ?

I'm in the process of doing that at the moment. When I drove out of the fitting place the rain was chucking it down and I had a number of big moments - I had expected brand new tyres to be better than my slick-effect Bridgestones in the wet, but they weren't. Got home, checked the pressures and they were literally miles out. Sorted that out and the trip to Billing and back was OK, but they still let go on the wet corners. Even this morning on the way to work in the dry I got 'lurches' on quick corners - more pressure fiddling required I think. At this stage all I can think is that people who think Proxes are good (and are prone to opening the throttle occasionally :)) should try Bridgestones. I don't class myself as a lunatic, I don't do donuts and I don't abuse the tyres, but with the manual box I expect to need two sets of rears for one set of fronts and those rears last about 6-7000miles - maybe it's just me !

Don't brand new tyres have a coating on them that means that they don't grip too well? I thought it took a while before that wore off.

My Proxes did when I picked them up, but I think it wore off mine within 10 miles..

Possibly because they had so little grip when I left the tyre place that I ended up almost doing a burnout outside! And that was pulling away at 2000rpm...

They seem OK now though, set at 35psi - but then I drive like an old woman anyway..

Well I reckon 300 miles should have taken that off. That's why I wasn't too bothered by the initial wet weather performance. Maybe it's time to adapt my driving style ! ;)

It's ok Andy - it's your birthday soon.. Your driving style will 'adapt' itself when you hit that ;)

(Looks innocent)

Yep, that's true. Flat cap, pipe and string-backed gloves are on the way. After next Monday I will have a sensible car that does 50mpg, 45mph, group 1 insurance and carries lots of shopping - NOT !

I can just picture you in a flat cap Andy..

Supping on a warm Guinness..

Perhaps not :)

Don't worry - I hit 25 the day before.. I feel old too.. (It's all relative :)).. :D

Ive just put SO2 's on the back, what a difference ! They're like glued to the tarmac. Also the best looking and safest tyre ive seen , so solid with 2 ply sidewalls , i just hope they're not being discontinued?

My car may be an na but I used to be able to spin my goodyear ultra grips without a problem...but not the so3s to spin those the rpms have to be up pretty high. But talk about sticking in the corners, I tell ya they may have cost more but as long as they are availible thats what I will be buying:)

Well I've got Toyo Proxes and there great - they're on 19" and I find they grip absolutely fine.

Geoff.
