Hi guys...

Ive been to see an 89(G) Auto 75,000 miler - they are asking £9K for it - I have however bargained him down to £8K now...

I know it's old and fairly high miles, but it is absolutely mint condition.

About £4K spent on bodywork/wheels/tyres and 1.5K on engine(work done at the zed centre) 9 months ago

well serviced since '97 when it was imported.

I really want one that looks (and drives) this well, but I'm a little put off by the mileage/age of this car....

you guys know better than me - is this good value or way over-priced - if so, how much should I offer him?

...and if I go for it, am I going to have to fork out all the time for this old-timer???

No.......only need to read it the once, thanks. ;)

Are we disagreeing about something? We both want him to get a good car don't we? I don't want him to get one that looks good only and is ready to break down due to coilpacks, injectors, gearbox, radiator, ptu, turbo's. etc etc etc.....get my drift?

I think the general concensus is that £8-9K for an early car is a lot of money. However, if it is genuinely a minter and mechanically perfect and you can guarantee that nothing will go wrong and the mods are what you want then it may be worth it. However, if all of the above isn't true then it may not. The real sticking point is can you guarantee that nothing mechanical will go wrong - the car is approx 14 years old !

Listen to others experience and make your own mind up.

Is it possible for you to put up some pics of that car mate

"Ammar"

Hi Scooby,

For reference I just bought on Sunday a 1992 UK TT Manual, it's completley stock and has a full service history from new, with every receipt for every service. It's been religiously serviced every 6 months with Mobil 1 from new. It's also still under Nissan warranty fromn new.

Bodywork wise it's pretty immaculate apart from a stone chip on the bonnet and a few small cracks on the front bumper.

But in my opinion it is a very sound car.

I paid £6.5k for it. The chap wanted £7.5k but as parkers values that year at £5.8k for A1 condition he dropped a grand.

So all in all, i'd say £8k for a '90 is well ogver the odds unless it's had some serious mods.

Yes Ammar it was me and now I have got it up to scratch its awesome and really looks the part ! Nothing major has gone wrong with it apart from the clutch and it has never failed me once, had it for nearly a year now !

I am in no way saying don't buy it but GET IT CHECKED OUT by someone in the know !

Nothing can be guaranteed even if its brand new, but I think being as old as it is certain parts if not replaced will be worn, suspension, bushes etc.

Have a look at a few other Zeds of that age as well to give you a comparison and look at what other zed's of that price range are available, year, model and spec.

Olly.

Just to add my tuppenceworth........

When a car gets to that sort of age condition is more important that age in my opinion. For example, parkers and glasses guide will rate a 1991 car is being worth more than an 1989 car. This is fine if you are comparing two indentical cars but in real terms the value of a 12 year old car and a 14 year old car comes down to condition, history, recepits, caring owner etc.

My car is an 1989 model and whilst I certainly didn't pay anything like £8-9K for it I did pay a little over the odds because I believed I was getting a well looked after machine. Hopefully this will be reflected if I ever sell it on.

If you have a budget of say £8.5K I'd be tempted to buy a nice car for £6-6.5K and leave the rest in the back for emergencies. Old cars do go wrong regaless of how well they have been looked after and with a car like this chances are you are hoing to have an expensive repair at some point during ownership.

Not trying to put you off, just make sure that you have thought about the running costs and you budget allows for this.

All the best.

Martin.

WOW Am I ever confused....

Let me clarify things....

The interior is pretty good

The exterior is Mint

The Mechanics.... god knows....

I need to get it inspected

The car is in Littlehampton... is there anyone who could take a look or should I pay the RAC £300 to tell me it's old and it might go wrong....

I think I need a real Z expert

GARY S - Yes I think I'll take a look at yours also...

Give Jeff @ Zedworld a ring, he'll accompany you and do a thorough check over!

If you like I could take mine to Jeff for him to give it the once over? I'm only half an hour away from him.
