pissed off really paid top dollar for car feel like i have been sharfted

old cars do go wrong, i knew when i bought my zed it would take up all my money and it does, i bought mine off a friend who took it in part ex, i got a thourough check over even tho it was a mate, lookily its running ok, but things will fail, it 13 years old, and incredibly complex. eletrics wise.

my advice would be to consider what costs you put into it so far, how much its gonna cost to repair. and what u get for it selling it and buying another one, but if u do that u could end up in the same boat. if your thinking of keeping this car for a good few years then spend money on it. at least u have peice of mind then.

I think what this comes down to is whether the box has JUST started to fail or if the previous owner knew about this but said nothing.........? You may of course, just of been unlucky.

the car is my first zed so i did not know any diffrent when i was driving it it has always been like it didnt find out because i had all the other problems with like the rad etc

"always been like it" ?? like what?

I feel for you bud, I really do, but sounds like you should've checked it out more.

See what Jiz says. (there you go, I've named him for you!)

i mean that the car has not got any diffrent since i bought it the reason i have found out about the box is that other cars can keep up with me cars like modeo bmws etc so i took the car in to be check for lost of power and that when i found out from the garage they said it beem like that for probally a while

just had a tele phone call from garage turbos are ok but the rocker cover gakets leaking hence that where the oil was coming from all in all its going to cost about 2 grand inc vat to sort out

thw missuses is going to hit the roof to nite where she heres this

sunbeds,

sorry to hear your having probs mate.

2 grand seems a bit steep for rocker cover gaskets??

Sorry to hear your troubles.....there are many a tale like this on the forum......

Hope you sort it all out

Reading between the lines here, but it seems to me that everthing you have been told "might" be wrong.

Turbos gone? but there not, just oil leaks.

Cant go faster than Mondeos? and thats the Auto box?

Rad, fair comment.

Maybe you should get a second opinion. And I dont know the seller.

God i really feel for you mate, especially telling the wife, hope shes ok about it. Dont worry everything will work out.

Hi all still alive afrter telling the wife. I have to dip into are honey moon fund to pay for the gearbox once the car is fixed i have to sell her so i can put the money back in our savings

gutted really i buy a car at top dollar whish is knacked then i repair it and some one is going to get a good car with no leaks and a new gearbox

and i get to drive around in a vectra or a mondeo or something similar GUTTED

What do you call "top dollar"?

What age is the car? Mileage?

the car is a 89 g with 62500 miles with private plate

So you're looking at a 14 year old car. You didn't say how much you paid, but I would expect an 89 (G) to be around the £3.5 - £4K mark for a reasonable one. Perhaps up to £4.5K.

14 year old cars WILL go wrong....of any make. Mine's only 9 years old and its just blown its second set of turbos because the stock ones aren't fit for the boost.

Unfortunately one of those things... They are expensive commodities that will have failures and things breaking on them.

You are unlikely to fully recoup the money you spent on the gearbox by selling the car. Think longer term - keep it ! You know it makes sense ;)

WTF she asked how much he had spent?

CHrist its a simple question.

point is if the car is near 14 years old and its a perfomance car it has probably at one point or another in its lifetime been thrashed.

things do go wrong on a car when you spent xxxxx (lets assume 3-4k) as brand new 14 years ago they cost nearer £35+k so look what your getting for that price and in which case what exactly do you expect?

no one is not sympathising with him, its a shit scenario but hell i got my car and two months on from owning it the enigne went... how is that the last owners fault?

if you got a car like this and never budgeted to have things go wrong then maby you shouldent have gotton a car like this.

since owning my car i worke dout it cost me roughly £400-£600 per month monthly, to keep well maintained and to get on top of and do the thing si wanted to keep it how i wished.

dont kid yourself if you think they are not expensive to run and maintain. its a empty bank account in that case.

bought my motor last yr for 4k, spent 4k on it, engine + box.....the guy held bk same in this case.....

warren, i know whats like to be shafted...so dont dont gimmi yr crap if u aint been in the same position oight!;)

oh yeah...and i didnt complain bout it, i just know where this guys comin from

its not about how much money u got or u aint, if some1 aint 2 well off BUT really wants a 300, he goes to find he best deal but also trys to make sure it aint gonna screw up the next month or 2.....good luck them they aint all got money coming out their arse holes like some.

Point is i really dont like people who take others for a ride.....

Well - for a start, since the person who sold the car hasn't appeared, we don't know that he hid any problems, or that any of them pre-existed for sure..

So, are you saying that anyone selling a car should not only disclose any already existing faults (whcih yes, they should, I agree), but they should also be able to see the future, and disclose any faults that are going to crop up in the next, what, year? life of the car?

Best none of us ever sell a car again then!

And before you say that we don't know what it's like to be sh*fted etc - most of us do, at least in some point of our car buying history..

Oh, and Z cars now owe me about £40,000, including buying the car (£10k), so I also know what it's like to have a lot go wrong.. It's a fact of live with ageing cars..

If I sold my car today, I couldn't honestly tell you if the tubs would last a day, or ten years - they /should/ last ten years, but what if some tiny manufacturing defect cropped up that shortened their lifespan considerably? Would that be my fault, for selling the car, or just a fact of life?

Yeah, I have said to always buy from someone on here, but the guy concerned only made a handful of posts, hardly much to check up on about his car etc. We all sympathise with him, no doubt about that, hell, mine blew up after ONE month of ownership, so I get to beat Waz's record. That cost me £2,500 for SE to supply and fit a new engine. It is down to the buyer to check as much as poss. Don't take anything for granted. He's already said the gearbox was already like it when he bought it. Like what I'm not quite sure?

Again, I will say I feel bad for you mate.

Get a 2nd opinion on what needs doing aswell, .......and keep it once its fixed.

Aaron, do urself a favour and read the thread in general.....it's also got 'possibly' shafted turbos...again dont know for sure....

dont know about u, and dont gimmi all that sarc'y crap,

lets go bk to school shall we aaron:

1, the car was NOT in a1 nick when he sold i

2, box went...cant say its the previous owners fault 4 sure

3, rad goes....shit loads of radweld.....eemmmm lets think wat do u think mate

4, Turbos on their way out

5, he could not have had much work donr to it

6, Sunbeds2002 said he paid 'top dollar'...we dont know how much yet

7, GET THE POINT!

Dont get sarcastic mate, ive got enough dosh for me not to woory bout shite(not bragging so start quoting me, jus making a point) ....i just dont like good, every day people taken 4 a ride!

The 300 might have been 30k+ 10yrs ago but now its apprx 4-10k....enough 4 the average working class,so dont kid urself....it aint no Lamborghini

mine & urs (everyday peoples) supercar, dream, life, hobby, everything really...

I agree with james mate, when running good its a beauty! try keepin but u may have to spend to maintain it for now!
