What is the power output of a standard TT manual (89 Jap import)?

I think the U.K. spec cars were quoted at 280 bhp but I've read somewhere that the jap crs were 300 bhp?

Anyone got any comments?

All the best.

Martin.

I'll jump in with an ill-informed opinion masquerading as fact:

As far as I know, the UK cars are 280BHP. Japanese and American cars are 300BHP. Not sure about other European cars.

300bhp,

In 1996 Variable Valve Timing was dropped and the power dropped to 280

I thought that the concensus was that UK and Japanese cars were 280bhp (and possibly the autos were around 260, although that's still up for debate!), and the US cars were 300bhp, with the autos at 280.

There was also a theory that the US measure bhp slightly differently to us, and that their 300bhp is equivalent to our 280bhp.

It's onl a 2-setting valve timing, not the continuos system as used in Honda engines etc.

why was it dropped ? emissions ?

Yes

But the official figures from Nissan say 300bhp.

The 300ZX came out before the 280PS law came into force.

I think I remember seeing that the US bhp measurement is slightly different to other parts of the world (a bit like US gallons). So the power of 'like' 300ZXs is the same, it is just that it calculates out to be 300bhp in the US, and 280bhp elsewhere.

Can anybody confirm this? An interesting theory anyway!!

Ciao, Geoff

UK/EURO/J-spec TT manual: 283 BHP

US-spec TT manual : 300 BHP

UK/EURO/J-spec TT auto : 268 BHP

US-spec TT auto : 280 BHP

US/J-spec NA manual: 230 BHP

US/J-spec NA auto: 222 BHP

boostlevel of a stock TT US spec is slightly higher compared to a EURO/UK/J-spec car, hence the higher bhp.
