Hi,

Can anyone answer this question, will a blow off valve work on an automatic as I think it is triggered by the pressure differential created when the throttle closes in between gear shifts. This doesn't happen on an auto as you just try and push the the pedal through the floor until you pass warp 9 :)

Any words of wisdom will be appreciated.

A BOV will only operate when the accelerator pedal is released when running positive boost pressure!

There is little point running a BOV on either the manual or automatic Z.

The Z already has recirculation valves that operate every time the vacuum pressure is released to them and they can quite happily handle well over 600hp.

For those that don't know, BOV's operate by releasing the pressurised air within the intake into the atmosphere and making a very cool sound at the same time.

Most people might think that the pressurised air stalls the turbo when the throttle bodies close (both manual & auto).

In reality, when using BOV's, the air is released into the atmosphere and this means that the space between the turbo compressor and the throttle bodies has to be regained and this causes a noticeable delay in boost pressure.

Also, the eprom is programmed to expect the unused air to be recirculated back into the intake and if it doesn't arrive then there is a momentary 'rich' running and this can cause hesitation.

There is definately no performance gain from fitting BOV's!!

Thanks, I had not planned to fit them as I already new about the recirc system, but one of my colleagues was planning to because of the supposed "cool noise", so just wondered if they would work.

I have them, I love them, get them!

They are great fun if you`re not a power freak and just enjoy turning heads, i have the Apex-i ones, and love scaring kids, old ladies and small animals with them!

i have them they are really cool.

sounds cool too, but can get to be a pain in the ass if you dont like it too loud.
