Hello there Folks,

How many PCV valves are there? I can find one on the inlet manifold on the nearside of the car but not on the oddside inlet manifold?

Am I going blind?

Cheers.

Martin.

Two valves mate, you can see both hoses clearly (one past front of the battery and the other through the cruise control bits) - not saying they are easy to get at tho :D

Go to http://www.courtesyparts.com and look at pcv valves and hoses under the 300zx bit - theres a diagram...

done mine on sat. the o/s one is easy to get to once youve got the bracket out of the way with a couple of electrical connectors attached to it.

Me and John Dixon did the valves and all the hoses on mine on Sat too :) The hose at the back of the engine bay was a biyatch. The damn clip couldn't have been left in a more awkward position

Cheers for the advice guys,

Any suggestions on how long replacement of the valves and breathers should take assuming that I'm doing the work myself?

All the best.

Martin.

A couple of hours with the right tools - few different longnosed pliers, sockets, 10mm spanner for the battery and cruise control, long pokey things, big pliers, thin arms :)

That's if you dont drop one of the valves down the back of the turbos :D - cos that will add an hour or so ;)

Pete

Thanks Pete,

One last question.

Would dodgy PCV valves cause oil smoke from the exhausts at idle? I've friven the car for a few days now and I'm convinced it is oil smoke from the smell. The car passed an MOT approx. 600 miles ago. Could the valves go off this quickly or is it more likely to be the turbos seals. I've checked the MOT emissions test print out and it passed the visible smoke test as well as the CO2 and all the other checks that form part of the emissions test for an MOT for a car of this age. The MOT was done at a Nissan dealer so I would expect them to be fairly strict.

It may well be the turbos but I think I'll go ahead and replace the PCV valves anyway.

I'll need to save up to have the turbos replaced.

Thanks again.

Martin.

the car has to be seriously knackered to fail the MOT visual smoke test!!

while on PCV valves if these were dodgy will it cause pressure in the engine as just doing some work at moment and noticed that all the camshaft seals are very slightly weeping and they are only about a year old.

YES!! the valves are there to vent crankcase pressure ;)
