Am I right in thinking that you can do this without involving solicitors for about £130 or similar? (no Macca the cement boots and lake trick costs more than that). There is no kids involved just property and its an amicable split.

Yes, you can do it without going through the courts. You'll both still need a solicitor, but that's more to make sure that everything that is said is understood.

 

You don't need the solicitor if you and your partner can come to an amicable arrangement.

I'm currently looking into this, I've already got the paperwork for doing it youself. DONT PAY FOR THE PAPERWORK, I got it for free, and that is from a legitimate source, I'm at work at the mo, but when I get home l8a, I'll get the web site address and post it up on here, along with the costs. Mines also amicable, at present, and we decided to organise it all ourselves, although we do have kids, but aslong as they are sorted out, in the eyes of the court, then its all plain sailing!!

When I got divorced it cost me nothing!!! If it's all amicable and there is no dispute about property or money then you don't need a solicitor. You just need to go the local court and they will give you a great big stack of leaflets to read (VERY BORING) and the forms you need to fill in. Cost of filing is down to who ever starts the proceedings so you can work that one out amongst yourselves.

 

Good luck and if it turns nasty then get a solicitor, it could save you a fortune!!!!

p.s My current missus would like to point out that there are "Phsyco" men out there and her ex has cost £17K to get rid of!!!!

Just done this mate. Cost me £180 for the filing fee and that was it. No hassle whatsoever, just a couple of forms. Should be done and dusted in about two more months. Let me know if you want any more info.
