Hello there folks,

This is my first posting on the forum so hello to everyone out there.

I don'y have a 300 ZX (yet) but I am in the market for one. Actually going to look at one this afternoon !!

Any advice on companies that give good rates for insurance?

I am 28 and have 8 years no claims.

Thanks.

Martin.

Im insured with direct line, Im a bit older than you, I get fully comp on my 300zx n/a import for £320, not bad at all

Cheers

Martin,

Am 35, have a jap import N/A and due to the fact that my zed is a second car, have no NCD.

LIverpool victoria quoted me £600, which is less than half what anyone else quoted.

Get it on a special classic insurance but you need a 2nd car. Good thing is it keeps you NCB free to use on your 2nd car.

I think you have to have a UK ZX though.

Tell us how your car viewing went.

Stuart

Both liverpool victora and firebond gave me £1000 + quotes.

Im 26 withclean licence good postcode (ish) 5 years NCB no points.

Norwich union quoted me happy with £1900 !!! FFS

Im with direct line now £722 fully comp on J spec no mods.

the viewing went well. It really was an excellent car. Its a jap import (1990) twin turbo. Lovely car in excellent condition.

More or less a standard car save for the 17" wheels and tyres.

On the insurance issue the plan was to insure it on a classic policy but as SRRAE points out they may not touch it as its a jap import.

Most of the quotes I'm getting are about £1000. Although I've got 8 years no claims I had an accident last year (NCB was protected).

I'm also keeping my mondeo for everyday transport. Problem is that if I transfer all the NCB on to the Zed then the cost of my mondeo policy goes through the roof !

I don't mind having to fork out a decent sum of money for insurance but £1850 for two vehicles is going some. I'll get my thinking cap on tonight and try and come up with a solution

Best possible outcome is if I can get it on a classic policy does anyone else out there have their jap import on a classic policy and if so with who?

Thanks for all the advice.

All the best.

Martin.

I use AON (01384 455011), I had a renewal of £420 last Nov but it jumped to £510 when i declared my SP30 (3 points, £60 fine), I am 35, FNCD, protected, cat 1, 6000 mls year, garaged overnight, G78 (Beiruit) postcode, car is standard. The policy is called'Classic Car Everyday Roadster' but I use my no-claims discount..ops and the wife is on the policy too but she's shit scared to drive my 300. My car is uk spec too.

The insurance factory did my mates jap spec on classic at about 500 without using his no claims.

just for reference... if you insure 2 cars with the same company they "mirror" your NCD over onto the second car policy :)

Yes arry is right,

my Z is a second car and i had silly quotes off of Tesco and others , so i cancelled my 1st car policy and insured both cars fully comp with the same broker for £750 using full no claims on both . Bargain. ( my other is a v6 Alfa )

if you guys need any advice on insurance matters - i am a broker but i dont deal (unless i have to) with private car, so wont be able to do you all quotes - but i can help out with any general advice you need..... for what its worth ;)

I dont know for sure because i havent asked him - but ROB WASTEGATE on the SXOC is also a broker doing very good deals for 200 owners at the moment, and he's also just insured a friend of mine on a GTiR for good money.... maybe he would be willing to do something for you zed boys :)

P.S. not all insurers/ brokers will do that!

You have to shop around and haggle with them or they'll sting you for as much as they can get away with.

second car policies are often very restricted mileage so if would have to be done that way if the zed isn't your daily driver.. They do give a discount for this.

I'll have to give that a go cos I'm fed up of paying extortionate amounts for insurnace:eek:

If I get a Jap import to replace my ailing ancient UK Zed I still wish to keep the old timer and renovate her (slowley). Would also be usefual to have a spare when the inivviatble trips for repairs happen on the new one.

Waht' would eb the best way to insure them both. I've been thinking about the sapiing the new one onto my existing plicy then getting classic car low mileage insurance on the UK one. Does this make sense

Just get two the same colour, and if you need to use the old one, swap the reg plates over!!! no need for 2 X tax, insurance, mot etc etc etc !!!;)

I insure my J spec tt through Life-sure, for £372 fully comp.

It is on classic insurance, has to be at least a second car and restricted mileage. They originally demanded cat 1 security, I said cat 2 or they could keep their insurance which they accepted, so they must have wanted the buisiness.

Fortunately I don't need the car for work, so could agree to their restrictions.

It probably also helps in the fact that I am old enough to be your father!!

And I'm probably old enough to be yours. Only joking Happyflyer, I'm 37 with 4 years ncb & AON charged me 585 fully comp with wife as well, & thou a year. Quite happy with that.

Aon recon they don't believe in quoting you extra for Jap spec cars. Also, after the quote they'd given me for a standard quote, the car I bought had a performance exhaust & they said they wern't bothered about miner mod & charged me the same.

Hello again folks,

Well I've gone and done it. I am now the proud owner of a 1990 Jap import TT !!!!

The car is great. Excellent consition inside and out with only minor stone chips to the front. I must admit I've never seen a 13 year old car with bodywork in such good nick. Just goes to show what salt does to cars !!

Anyway just got to get the insurance issue sorted out now. I'll hopefully get it on classic insurance as its a second car, garaged at night and I'll limit the annual mileage to 5000.

Thanks again for all the advice on the insurance issue.

All the best.

Martin.
