Hi guy's

Electric aerial has given up the ghost.

You can hear the motor working, and the mast comes up approx 3in, you can then pull it to fully extend.

But does not then retract when radio switched off, again you can here the motor working and if you give it a hand and lower the mast when it gets to the last 3in it will then fully retract.

Any ideas, anybody taken one to pieces.

Cheers dave.

Yep, mine did that and of course, the manual operation of them makes the motor go poof faster than Puff the Magic Dragon after being doused in lighter fluid.

The way I fixed mine was to extend the aerial, give it a clean, be a bit liberal with the old Water-Deterent mark #40 (WD-40) and 3-in-1 oil. Annoy the hell out of your radio by turning it off and squirting both down the aerial hole, turning the radio back on, and doing it all over again. After 4 or 5 applications, it should run smooth as.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

Yep, Ajay is the aerial masteress, lubrication is the key! When the aerial dries out after being constantly rained on etc. it tends to start getting stuck. Have had this with most of my cars, Supra used to suffer, Merc does it aswell! Just do what Ajay suggested and your problems will go away! LOL!

Thank's for the replies guy's, but have tried this and it feels like whatever extends the aerial has broken!!

When aerial starts to come up it does so for about 3in, and then stops, you can then extend the aerial but it is very loose ie:not sticking, what attaches to the aerial mast inside.

It is the same for lowering the aerial you can push it straight down, no resistance until the last 3in and then the aerial retracts, as it should.

Cheers dave.

Sounds to me like some of the drive cog bits have broken. I'd guess they're nylon and have got chewed at sometime. You could try a secondhand one from somebody - doesn't look very difficult to replace, most of the bits are visible (famous last words!).

I've got the same problem, the WD40 works at first but mines completely knackered now. I was able to lower and raise the ariel manually, but the mrs decide to push it all the way down into the recess. Now I'm radioless.

If anybody has some tech on how to remove/repair/replace etc I would be greatful.

Cheers
