The electric window on the drivers side features an automatic window up with one press of the button. I wish to disable this feature and want to know how to do it.

The reason for doing this is because of my two kids. When I am working on the car (which is most weekends!) they like to help me. I am concerned that if they put their head out of the window and accidentally press the button... The window doesn't stop, even if there is an obstruction.

So you can see why I want to do this. Your help is as ever appreciated.

Firstly i'm sure someone else here could give you a better answer.

The other window switches (passenger side and passenger side on the drivers side) don't have this feature and you can physically feel the switch is different, with only one click down rather than the double click that the driver's has. Surely if you get a 2nd hand driver side unit of AndyZ you could try and stick a normal switch in it's place if you see what i mean.

Or hopefully the drivers switch has an extra 1 or 2 wires coming out of it, just find out which gives the current when pressed right down and cut it. Simple :p

I bet none of that made sence!

I don't know if its the switch or actual mechanism inside that allows the 'auto close' to operate but I know AndyZ had some window switches at a give-away price. I'm thinking you could just change the switch over, there are 2 little boxes behind the controls for each switch and it looked as though it all came apart when I had mine off the other day. You can maybe try with my old ones?

...............other than that, just make sure your keys aren't in the ignition when working on your Z or when your kids get in! ;)

You have a power window lock switch that is set up to disable the passenger side. I think some straightforward re wiring of the drivers side window power supply also through this switch would mean that both windows were disabled when lock switched.

Or as James pointed out make sure they cant have the keys or wait till they are a bit older to help!

Personally I'd also be worried about the handbrake, the auto box getting knocked into drive (if auto) little fingers in the fan blades, rolling over one etc etc. Jacks collapsing etc

I've got kids too and prefer that they are nowhere near the car when I work on it.

Kids safety comes first - its only a car.

Some good ideas, thanks. I'll try and get the door panel off at the weekend and see if a rewire is possible.

I am very careful when it comes to the kids safety. that's why I want to fix this on the car. You just never know. Plus, I might get caught in the window one day!

Thanks for the ideas again!

LOL, ask pete shrimp about this one!!!

As an easy solution you could just pull the leccy window fuse out stop em working altogether, or chop off their fingers stop em pressing the buttons!!!;)

one of my freinds was driving his escort when he got his arm and head locked in the window,

we have yet to figure out how he mangaged it

can the passenger side switch on drivers side be converted to one touch ip/down?

Colin -

a tip from the expert (Jeff at ZedWord) is to always take the T-Tops off when you work on the car. It's a not-too-painful alternative fix for your kid-trouble. I'm sure Jeff has a different reason for doing it, but I just can't remember it!

Russ.

Thanks Russ, good idea.

I've also heard that some alarms have been known to arm themselves and lock you out of the car so with the T-bars off this wouldn't be a problem.

Colin,

I see you're in Harlow, would you own the red or the silver one I've seen around occasionally. You may have noticed mine - metallic blue.

Hi Andy

Mine is silver. although I have only had the car a couple of weeks. I don't remember seeing your car, although I have recently seen a black one.

So where abouts are you from?

I've just read this, get it disabled!!

Ever squashed your face in your window?!

Pete :o  :)

That's excellent Pete :D

I trust your head is okay now??

No permanent damage?

Did you disable the window, or do you now not bother checking how close you are to the kerb :)

Colin

I live near Dunmow but work in Harlow. I've seen a silver import around a couple of times, also a red one (can't remember whether it's import or not). Also saw a silver one parked in Takeley recently. We should have a mini-meet sometime, plus try and make an effort to attend the Essex meet later this month.

Is that the meet at Chafford Hundred? I will definately make that date.

I used to live near Dunmow, in Gt. Easton. Lovely area (nicer than Harlow).

I think a mini meet is a good idea. Sounds like there are a few 300's in the area.
