Hi, my Z, 1993 series 3, imported from Japan, has a clear film on the inside of the rear window, is this normal?

Hey neighbour, Can you come and give my Z some strange looks to get this film off please...? :D

Thanks Mr Neighbour, I dunno how I could have done it and dry me mullet at the same time :)

Might be clear security film to stop the windows shattering in a break-in?

Is it on any other windows?

Not for security I feel as it is not on any others, and it has been put on in strips, about 3 I think. If nothing turns up, ie reason for it, I will remove it as it makes the window look slightly dirty even when its clean.

i passing, anyone who has not run their import on Optimax/Super unleaded, try it soon, I have just and it is better. Cant tell the diff between opt and super though,...

Hi,

I have used Optimax a couple of times in my TT import and have definitely noticed a difference. Especially on acceleration. Just too bloody expensive for me to use all the time.

Phil.

I'm sure mine has this also, if you remove it can you post the results here please. Would like to get rid myself.

Cheers

Hey,

I have a Jap import and it has this film. Unluckily for me the film has bubbled too. Has anyone had a go at removing it yet? I want to get rid as its tinted slightly as markstevens says, and with it being bubbled its just a mess.

Cheers,

One of the oldest thread revivals lol, you can get it off with heat, steam etc, there are a few threads/videos on google or youtube with a few options.

I used a hair dryer.

Heat up the tint and try to get a start by using your fingers to lift an edge. Then keep applying heat to the immediate section that you're peeling up and try to pull away slowly. If you're patient it will come away in big pieces. I didn't need to scrape anything and the rear screen element survived.

To remove any glue residue left behind, I tried lots of things, but ultimately petrol on the back of plenty of blue roll was the best for me. Don't worry the smell didn't last and no damage was done.

The side windows were much easier than the rear screen, I suspect the direct sun light the rear screen is subject to is the cause.

This job isn't easy, will take a few hours and requires plenty of patience.

Enjoy. :)

LOL - I thought I'd gone back in time..... Either that or some more old members had returned to the fold.....:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Haha!

Thanks for the advice lonezedder. I'll give it a shot as described. With it being bubbled slightly I'm hoping its a little easier.

Cheers!
