I took the Z out today for a drive to B&Q, drove home no problems at a normal speed 60-70 on 'A' Road.......

Pulled up at home, unloaded Z (few plants!) and switched her off, went inside and the next door neighbour knocked the door and told me my car was leaking!?!?

I went outside to see the Z had dumped some coolant on the road on the passenger side about 12 inches from the front and about 6 inches from wheel arch, looked more than there was but it looked a lot!!

It stopped and then I waited for it to cool down and checked the radiator which seemed to be full enough, I started the Z back up and let it run for 5-7 minutes and watched the area under the Z and nothing leaked (I was on my back under the car!!)

I did check all the fluid levels the other day and topped up the rad and the coolant reseviour (mistake??) Have I done something wrong, i.e. too much coolant in the Z and it spat it out or have I a dodgy pipe somewhere?

Is there somewhere on the coolant system that allows for it to be released without any problem caused to the Z? (I'm crossing my fingers for this!)

I know it was hot today and I 'think' that too much coolant in the system and it expanding due to the heat of the day is my problem (see how I keep pointing that out! :D ) or is there a major problem I need to be worried about??

Any help is appreciated ASAP!!!

Cheers,

Matty.

This happened to me once before when I parked up on a kerb, this was about 9 months ago and it has not happened since. I never found out why it did it.

It's wierd, it stopped as quick as it started!!

The neighbour noticed it and I had been in the house all of 4 minutes or so, wierd really. I started the Z up again, left her running and nothing, not a drop!

Would it be best to carry some water in the Z 'incase' it decides she wants to dump some more???

Matty.

I find the best thing to carry is my AA membership card :)

I wouldnt even drive if it was leaking personally, but im paranoid to the max :)

I get drips of water coming from round there every now and then. Most of the time its because water gets caught up there from when its raining.

Other times its because I turn a corner too quickly and the water pours out the over flow.

Matty, if (when cold) you filled the coolant in the rad to the top then filled the expansion tank upto a bit above the max, when the water expands when it gets hot, the excess in the rad is put into the expansion tank, but if its already full, out the overflow it comes!

Thats what id wager it is anyway.

One tip, if you think you have an "occasional" try driving without the spash guard for a short journey then when you stop, look for leaks as it cools.

You can syphon a bit of the coolant out of the tank, to cure it if thats all it is.

If it turns out to be your water pump (which i dont think it is) god help you!!!! ;)

I'd go with the overflow mate to be honest, I topped up the rad then went mad and topped up the expansion tank!! (I know, muppet!!) That's why I think it just spat it out.........I will start it up again today and see what happens, leave it running for a while.

The water pump?? I here you available to this kind of work ;)

My labour charges are only £5 an hour too........ shame it takes me a week to change a water pump though!!!!!

Mat Lad it's the overflow for the expansion tank, there is a hole where the neck joins the detachable neck that leads upto the top of the engine bay.

I over filled my tank and everytime it stopped it kept dumping loads on the floor exactly where you said. That's where the tank lives.

Don't worry about it. If the rad level is bang on then that's it.

Sleep easy tonight bud. ;)

...or 11 nights after he posted the problem, anyway. ;)

The air con doesn't have water in it - it has gas. What you might be seeing is the condensation that forms when the air con is used.
