Apparently there has been a car(S) which have both forms of boosting engine power present at the same time. ne1 know which car(S) had this ?

The advantages would be power before the turbo kicks in from the superhcarger which could stop when the turbo kicks in.

The Lancia S4 was like this.

A certain Japanese company did that to MR2 Mk1s

Nissan micra superturbo.

I think its about 850 or 900cc and produces around 100bhp IIRC.Check out Gran Tourismo1 - I think its available as a s/h car;)

Lancia did one for the group B rallying , which was fased out pretty quickly.

Is that correct teacher?

yup, i was working for Lancia at the time, it was a bonkers engine - a straight 4 with an inlet manifold between the cams & a zorst manifold on either side, like a vee engine.

IIRC, it was putting out around 7-800 bhp. from a 1700cc!!!!

Nelson, what seminars do you go to and talk engines?? I want a job like that. I just fix fix em:confused:

It was an engine oil additives seminar - I work for Shell.

Ooo! Your not one of those dodgy reps which come to my garage and try and sell me miracle cures for shagged engnes are you???

Only joking, have they got any jobs involving playing with engines all day long, squeezing as much power as possible out of them. Oh and then putting the engines in light weight cars and seeing how fast you can drive them, and get paid for it!!

Only asking because that would be my ideal job.:D :D :D :D

Paul (SPARKZ)

No, just a lab technician working on engine oil formulations. Pretty broing really.

If you weren't there, who would come up with those multi milion dollar motor oils??? Certainly wouldn't be the accountants!!

Delta s4, compound charged, 1759cc (1.8 obv :D) 4cyl.

exactly as you described supercharger works to xxxxrpm then turbo comes in.

see piccys for details on engine...

They didnt (group b cars) get phased out, they got terminated, as the were deemed too fast - too dangerous.

Piccys - lampredi twin cam engine, you can see the inlet manifold - carbon, exhaust manifold (all four pipes on the exhuast side of the engine;)) and you can trace the intercooler pipes to the relevant supercharger (exhaust/engine).

oh, and they did run silly power in the works rally cars 650hp + (depending on their mood ;))

Road cars didnt have as much power for obvious reasons.

I can guess you got sheeite fuel economy too! :D

ahhhhhhhh heres the one i was talking about. i think it was when they were banned. not sure if it ever raced

ECV!

never raced, nor did the ECV2, which they strangely developed from the ECV?!? so they developed 2 cars, neither raced, sounds like a plan! no wonder fiat pulled all the racing money and poured it into ferrari ;)

I think the s4, ecv and ecv 2, nelson, will satisfy your quest for mass reduction. Obviously not wanting to tread old ground, but you can see the lengths they went to for mass reduction too! :D

Indeed - that wud make a superb road car - use a smallish engine and supercharge & turbocharge it - the car wud be light but fast as fook !;) :D --------> I WANT 1 !!
