Are you for joining the Euro?

Yes or No?

No name calling or anything else, just either Vote on the poll, or you can post your reasons as well as voting.

I vote NO!

Reasons.

I dont like the idea of our countries money being ruled by people who have nothing to do with it. Interest rates have stayed level for a while to try get people spending more and to help on the rising house prices. If they where high this country would be in financial chaos.

Also prices WILL go up if the UK joins. Every country who joined the Euro had price rises. Reason being if something costs £29.99 or €41.77 they will rise the price to €41.99 to make it look better. They will not lower it to €40.99 because they will lose more money. May not sound much but when buying your weekly shopping a little here, a little there will add up to maybe you shopping costs £2 or £3 more than before. That adds up to £100 £150 more on your shopping. It doesnt stop there it will effect everything. Petrol currently 72.9p here, which is €1.0152 a litre, will rise to €1.02 or something. Small amount but still an increase.

Cloths will be effected, holidays, travel fares will all rise to round up to a nice number. A £139,000 house will cost €193,579 but they dont advertise prices like that they will make it 193,999 because they dont want to lower it to make less money.

People say that we cant survive with being out of the Euro, however the countries are not in the Euro currently are doing very well.

What are your thoughts?

Stuart

Interest rates would probably drop which would make your mortgage considerably cheaper, some of the UK taxes would have to be brought into line with European ones, so booze could be cheaper and it would make it very much easier to do direct comparisions of prices between us and other member states, so price competition is likely to increase, giving potentially better deals.

Still don't want to join though ....

I think the big, long term question is:

Do you want to live in the United States of Europe, because I think that's the overall plan.

I think the UK has to much to loose for that.

Mike

I am one of the YES voters.

Eventually its either joining Europe or USA - or splendid isolation.

Its the best of a bad bunch

This country has dont well for over 2000 years in isolation.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO - WAY

In fact pull out of the EU, go back to the old Common Market ( trade only links) none of this European Policy Stuff.

We must retain our choices etc.

Worth it IMHO even if costs bit more ( dont drink French wine anymore anyway )

Do we really want this country run by a bunch of unelected European bankers and the sort of politicians that were never going to get into power in the UK (Neil Kinnock, for example)?

I know I don't!

Only if you take into consideration the domination and exploitation of the rest of the world (we called it the British Empire), but I don't think we'd get away with that anymore, although the US seem keen right now ! LOL

I vote No.

First I'm English, then British, then if I really have to be, European.

Good Lord, Picts, Scots, Celts, Saxons, Angles. Jutes, Normans (Normen?), French etc etc etc.

We ARE Europeans. The amusing thing is how many people haven't clocked it yet.

I found something strange when in Frog land. Visting vineyards in Chinon (hic). Went round a castle - actually the one where Joan of Arc appealed to the Dauphin but that's another story - and tripped over a grave stone set into the ground. Henry 2nd - or Henry Plantagenet (keep up at the back there).

The French think that he was king in France. But we know hime as English.

It was only in the 16th Century that we (the Europeans living in England) lost our last possessions in France (to the Europeans living on the continent.)

Oh, and Nissan is now run by the French!

We have to be in Europe to split the French from the Germans and make certain that we get a fair crack.

Cheers - Gio

Whilst I can see the benefits to business it has to be a big fat NO.

Besides, that euro crap looks like toy money!

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Oh we're all a bit mixed up as it goes, I mean, with blonde hair and blue/green eyes I've got Saxon in me somewhere in my distant past, especially given that both parents and both sets of grandparents are dark haired!

However, that said, it doesn't stop me from being proud to be English! (Usually, anyway...)

I voted yes even though I wouldnt have vote in reality.

Having used the euro for the last 18 months have found the prices did rise on everything over the first few months.

But being tied to the EMU (European monetary union)is excellent . I have just moved house and was able to get a 2.95% mortgage. 10 years ago When we were a go it alone nation this could have been 14%.

Taxes in genaral have come down to bring us in line with europe .

It makes more sense when on holiday to use the same cash.

Even though the currency is the same the european parliment still has no direst control over internal financial policy. It may criticise, but the finance minister can still give them the two fingers if he wants

I general I dont think you can lose. National identity is not determined by the colour of the cash in your pocket.

Roy

Ireland did well out of the EEC up till now. Continental Europeans remind us that we have a lower standard of living than them yet UK, Germany and Holland are about it as far as net payers-in are concerned the rest are subsidy junkies on the take and another bunch of money printers want in! They do accounting like Enron!

Its no surprise they want us in.

The others dont play by the rules they set. Italian manufacturers send their workers home to do gardening when there's no work and pay 80% wages out of state funds then they go back when the work comes in. UK companies hand out 90day redundancy notices when the work runs out then its over. There are several European countries distorting competition by keeping their manufacturers on life support when according to the rules they are lame ducks and should be gone.

God bless Europe its always there when it needs us!

What really makes my blood boil are those big notices on new projects -

Funded by the European Commission

ffs

Its British tax payers who paid for it and more so long as we remain net payers in and it should damn well say so.

politicians - parasites all of em

Cloths will be effected

I am not joining if they are going to start effecting our cloths, what will I wash my zed with?

The truth of the matter is that this poll is about as close as you will get to a vote on the issue. President blair and his wicked witch have their hearts set on being the glory couple of europe and he wont let a small thing like public opinion stand in his way, and his labour cronies will support him as it is the closest thing they will get to socialism.

My own personal opinion is that we should take on the american system of government, where everybody from the local sheriff (chief constable) upwards is elected and therefore directly responsible to the people for their job. Tell germany (who are only trying to do with politics what they couldnt do by force), france (who will always side by germany, even when they are getting humped by them) and everyone else who has an opinion on how this country should be run to sling their hook

While we are about it lets f*ck devolution out the window. Scotland wins the right to raise money by taxes, and the right to spend it. So.....we are allowed to spend our own money....and some f*cking nobjockey voted for that??

I'll get me coat ( and pick up my toys on the way out :)

What has europe got to offer the UK?

Spain get about 3 times as much money from the EU than they put in and the UK puts in one of highest amounts, if not the highest and gets back the least.

The UK is paying Spain to make shit wines. ;)

Stuart

Well all the pro europe people said this country would fall apart if we didnt join, millions would become unemployed, the econemy would crash, interest rates would go through the roof etc etc...

None of this has happened infact the pound is stronger than ever and we have stayed out for a couple of years now so why do we need it??

Cant see the point

Paul
