Proudly driving around in me Z today after picking it up from having the new high wing fitted.

When in the other carriageway coming towards me is a Plod car.

Subaru Impreza!!.

As we passed the fooker does a u-turn in busy traffic, sirens going and all the lights flashing, so i moves over as i thought they were on an emergency call and it was all to pull me, what the fook is all that about!!!!

Now i know i have slightly illegal number plates, but surely that's way over the top.

So i told em and started to get into a right argument for which i get a producer!!.

Wankers!!!!

They're really starting to clamp down on illegal plates now after a few incidents - there was a kiddie run down by a car and none of the eye witnesses could agree on the plate. The police found the car and driver, but the case fell apart in Court when the conflicting evidence was read out. Kiddie dies and illegal plate owner got off scot free.

Well someone told me the story in a pub, so it must be true!)

Happened to me. Plod went past 4-5 cars in traffic, driving down the wrong side of the road stopped next to me blocking traffic coming the other way. Told me to put my window down and said, your number plate is illegal, the 7 should be next to your H. :confused:

 

It was. Was was wrong was there wasnt a full space between the H and 7, it was half of one.

 

Dont think he could pull me over cos the light went green and by now there where about 4 cars wanting to get past this pig car cos he was parked on the wrong side of the road.

Let's face it driving a zed is not the same as waving a flag saying 'law abiding citizen!' - the police are fully aware what the car can do and that half of them have perfomance mods too. They know we're driving enthusiasts and that means habitual speeders to them, so they will always pull fast cars over to remind the owners who (they think) is boss.

 

But think about it like this, when they get back to the station, they drive home in Ford Fiesta 1.3Ls, tuned for unleaded, and pretend it's a zed!

Actuall I have never been pulled over by the police, just the plate thing on a slow day I think. Hehehehe

The first week I got the car, a police van doubled back along a dual carrage way in the centre of town in the middle of the night and followed me for a few mins. I think they where checking out the plate seeing if its been reported stolen.

 

 

Now I dont mind that.

In my 2 zeds, in 12 months i have always had a mis spaced reg plate on the front, i have had a £30 fine for non standard reg plate once.

 

I thought id attract more attention from the police in my zed (especially locally, as alot of the coppers know me from my boy racing days) but i hardly ever get pulled.

 

If you start arguements with them, it obvious that theyre gonna give you grief back and like as not a fine for something unimportant.

 

There are alot of "nice" coppers about, but as in any line of work there is always the odd "nasty" one, trouble is spotting which ones they are, then either putting your foot down or kissing ass!!!

 

If youd of said his impretza was nice etc, bet it much quicker than my old datsun etc etc, you probably wouldnt have got the producer, and if youd have said that his impretza wasnt his car and you bet he drives a fiesta then youd probably have got a fine and a vdrs etc.

 

With it being an Impretza, this means probably traffic cop and these (and specials) tend to be abit more eager to pull out their little black book, so i'd count my blessings if i were you that it wasnt a fine.

from my experience on my bike ( you think zeds get attention, try a fireblade, with a loud pipe and black visor :)) I always go by the rule, if the cop gets out the car smiling, he is either a car fan or he is going to do you no matter what you say or do, so say what you like. if he gets out with a frown, he is going to give you a bollocking and , as long as you dont have anything severely naughty going on, or get lippy, thats probably all.

 

It might seem stupid to everyone else but it has always worked for me:)

Hmmmm, somehow I don't think that's the reason, it might be sited as a reson by the police but I would think it's far more likely to be to do with number plate recognition systems not being able to read your plate, and as we all know a loss of revenue is far more important to any traffic cop than an actual crime.

 

If they ploughed some of the money back into driver training or updated the laws so that incosiderate and discourteous driving was a FPN then perhaps I'd feel a little happier and people might think about their driving.

It used to be middle lane hogging, now its the outside lane that the 316 is sitting in with nothing else on the motorway or why is it that people think dual carrageways are like filter lanes, you move into the RHS a mile or so before you turn right at the next round-about, when you come up behind them to overtake they just put the RH indicator on - TOSSERS!

They don't look good, they look like you are just trying too hard IMO.

 

Whether it's an urban myth or not, deformed ambiguous characters, or use of coloured screw caps to alter letters etc does affect peoples judgement to recognise a plate properly, which at the end of the day is why the plate is there.

I dont know :rolleyes: why not just obey the law? is it not easier to just fall in place with things like this?

 

It always amazes me that everyone gets pulled over by the cops yet its never ever there fault, then look depper into it and they have wrong number plates , this that ect.

ive been pulled over twice since ive been here and both times they had perfectly good reason to pull me?

they do a damn side better job than where i come from i can tell you.

I have a standard number plate, or as near as possible, the rear characters are the new official font but are about 4mm too short of the caps height and I have moved the T and J closer as they aesthetically didn't work without proportional spacing, but hey I make my own number plates so I can.

 

Waz, on the whole i agree with you. but the point that infuriates me is this obsession by the police force for revenue collecting rather than actually making the roads a safer place. On the spot fines for using a cell phone without hands-free would get my vote for alternative revenue generator, I've witnessed fag in one hand cell in the other whilst trying to navigate a round-about! What about £25 on the spot for lack of lane discipline on the motorway? Okay, open to abuse that one but you get the idea and I'm sure that Audi 1.8TD drivers would get the message soon enough.

 

Yep IMHO 'show' plates look shite and are unnecessary, slightly moving the spacing whilst still retaining the original font I cannot see a problem with, except that 'big brothers' readers can't recognise the characters in the wrong position. So, tell me how much did DVLA make when they sold K1 NGS or N15 SAN? Isn't that asking to have the spacing changed?

Especially on the friggin motorways , at least with a powerful car you can avoid most of the jizzpots , sometimes.

Well thought I'd add my 2 cents worth.

 

I personally have nothing against the police, I have been pulled over twice before and both times I was in the wrong.

I never argue with them because I know I've been naughty.

 

At the end of the day it's their job, they do what they have to do.

There may have been another reason, that they pulled you over, your car may have matched a recent hit and run or robbery somewhere. They don't have to tell you, all they want to do is check. If I was doing my job and someone told me to stick it up my butt, I'd be a little p1ssed off as well and knowing that I can't smack you in the mouth, I'd make you suffer another way :D :D.

 

I used to hate my mum when she used to smack me for being naughty, but I believe it made me under stand the Norms and Values of society LMAO !!!

 

Sort your plate out or buy a private one, then you'll find that you won't get as much grief.

I was pulled over by plain clothes the other day for doing absolutely nothing ! They said I looked like someone who was banned from driving which is fair enough, they went past me with blue flashing light on the roof in a green volvo and went a totally different way to me but when I got to work they were right behind me pulling me over !

 

They then went through my car and one of them sat in my driving seat asking me where I got my dvd player and screen from, if I bought the stereo new or secondhand, where did I get the wheels from, I mean can't you even buy stuff secondhand without them thinking you nicked them anymore !

 

They then had a chat with me about it all for five minutes while my daughter is standing there asking me if I know these people. They didn't even show me any i.d. If it wasn't for the blue flashing lights on the roof I would of told them to f-off and let them for dust !

I didn't complain about being pulled over, with the size number plate on the front of my Z, i even expect it.

But for the cop car to do a U-turn in busy traffic, sirens and all the lights going was a little over the top.

Why not just follow me , flash of the lights and i would have pulled over.

But no not plod, it has to be all hell breaking loose!!.

Like i said Wankers !!!!.
