Have you turned it on first using the button near the fog lights? Does the light come on?

Copied of twinturbo.net :-

If you have a failing ASCD (a.k.a Cruise Control), check FOUR fuses.

This is based on my 1992 EURO SPEC TT

Battery -> Horn Relay (Location : Engine Bay, 10A). If this one is blown, the MAIN cruise control (i.e. on the left pod) will work, but it will NOT be able to set the speed. Seems it cuts continuty from the Set/Reset/accel THROUGH the Horn relay.

Ingition Switch -> ASCD (a.k.a. Cruise Control) Hold Relay (Location : ?). This one makes sense.

Battery -> Stop Lamp Switch (Location : ?). Depressing the brake kills the ASCD, makes sense.

Ingition Switch -> Electronic Speedometer (Location : ?).

And....looking at the complete diagrams, it seems that these fuses are controlling a LOT more than what's labelled on the box (someone told me on an auto the ASCD fuse controls sometimes the BACKUP lights ???)

The ASCD unit under the hood (in front of the battery) requires vacuum to operate. Make sure the hose leading to the actuator has vacuum.

Auto or manual???

I have the same problem but mine is an auto engine with manual gearbox conversion. It was done befoe I bought the car so don't know if they missed anything out but cruise has never worked. I think Jeff said the bulb for cruise has been removed so I'm guessing there is a problem they didn't want anyone to know about. Just out of interest, if it was a fuse that had gone would other things not work ie. the horn?

I have the same problem, but I think mine is because the neutral switch on the gearbox has not been connected and the car permanently thinks it's in neutral, so the cruise is disabled.

The car is a 93 uk manual

and the lite on dash comes on but does not activate cruise control

If you have checked all the fuses, before you set the CC, put your left foot under the clutch pedal and gently lift it and then try and set it.

If it works, then you need to adjust your clutch pedal slightly or check for where the switch is that recognises that you have pressed it.

checked switches on clutch and brake ? very sensitive !
