sat at lights together, he was giving it some major revs, so i thought, why not?? anyway, this thing completely toasted me, left the line like an exocet, and just kept going, and get this - i am more than SURE this thing spun from second to third, smoke etc...had to check that i hadn't stalled - lol, wtf do you think he had done to it???

Its could have been a Carlton Lotus, which looks exactly the same as a Carlton until you look under the bonnet and see a lovely 3.6 V6 Twin Turbo Lotus engine.

Used to be the rocket ship of choice for many Essex gangsters. Sorry, "entrepreneurs", is of course what I meant to say.

What a lovely car for behaving badly in! Made me grin then and still does.

:D Gio

LOL :D

Out of all the cars to try it on with :p ;)

What happened to it Mike?

What happened to it? It was a pile of crap that's what happened to it!

You think your Zeds are unreliable. Try a Lotus Carlton. In the two years I had it, it was on the road for about six months. Parts are unavailable and, when you can get them, they cost a bomb.

A couple of examples: The rear diff cost me £3000. The radiator cost me £1000. The coil pack cost me £2500. Front brake pads were £500 and disks were unimaginable!

That's what happened to it! Cost me £25,000 to buy and about the same to fix it over two years. Lotus? Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious!

DOH!

Shame, such a nice car :(

:D :D ;)

I was in me old SWB TT(absolute animal:D )

You were obviously not on the track the previous year at Billing ;) - I have the video, Lotus Carlton being very naughty with the soops and 300zx's.

He was driving like a complete tit though :(

They are fat cars with nearly 400hp as standard, and most people who own em are enthusiasts who will tweak them a little.

Not suprised it F****d off into the distance, im more suprised that it managed to get that much grip, they smoke their tyres like a bar steward.

I wanted one B4 i got me 2hundy and the Z, but no way on earth could I afford the cost of one, and to maintain it.

Steve

okey-dokey then folks, that must have been what it was, i mean this thing just simply flew, and yes, it did spin between 2 & 3 - hmmmmm... must make mental note, leave them alone.

errrr.. not necesarily, my mate used to own a carlton 3000 gsi, however with the addition of a lotus carlton body kit, and a turbo conversion from courtney, a monster was born.

So it may not have been a lotus carlton, but one of the many courtney conversions for the gsi 3000. if it had a lotus body kit and a celica gt4 bonnet vent, then it was my mates old car, highly unlikely though!!

Cool cars the GSI - I had a black one years ago that was bone stock but many folks asked if it was a Lotus Carlton.

You could throw that thing around and as for opp-lock oversteer back end out fun, well, I thought of it as the older brother of the Manta GTE.... marvellous car :)

For all its faults I do miss it though. You've never heard or felt anything like it.

I put Yokohame treads on the rear and changed the doughnut bushes for something less soggy. This sorted a lot of traction at the rear. It gripped just as good full throttle in first as the Zed did. However, the Lotus's first gear ratio was not much less than second in the Zed. But, yeah, it squealed the tyres everytime you changed up a gear until fourth.

I hear that they are worth more in parts as cars. I.e. You can buy one for £20,000 and then sell all the parts off for more than that.

AndyZ, you are doing the wrong cars. LOL

Seriously they are monsters. Even the GSI 3 litre turbo'd will be very fast. But where they not front whell drive?

Hey, quit with the foul language man, not necessary! ;)
