Got a strange problem. when driving along in first gear for instance will run fine up to 3000 revs then not budge above really. sitting with the car in neutral and rev it, it will get up to about 6 ish then start to die. Basically whenever the boost guage would go above the 0 point it won't move.

Also at this point there is a hell of a noise from the front like a boost leak. I've disconnected now the recirc valves so it is off. This is where the noise was coming from but performance is still wrong. ECU says 55. If i disconnect the big pipe going to the recirc valve coming from the air inlet pipe going to the turbo from the afm (If u know which i mean) It will run better and get above 3000 revs but still not as good as it should be. boost goes up to about 2psi. This means that air is entering after the afm and its running better. I'm thinking poss afm faulty but code 55.

I've removed the air filters as these were clogged so these aint the problem

Also when it is running with foot flat to floor and only 3k revs there is a hell of a lot of black smoke coming out of the back as if it thinks there is plenty of air going in so its overfueling.

Can anyone clarify this or any other ideas please.

Another thing poss related is a loud hissing noise on idle from under the drivers side wing. there must be a leak in the cat gubbins but i don't think this is affecting it as i have removed the suction pipe from the plenum and blocked it to eliminate this from the closed loop and it still has the same boost problem.

Please HELP.

Cheers

If you disconnect the AFM, do you get the same problem or does it get worse ?

It sounds more like you have a huge boostleak somewhere, like a leaking intercooler or one of the recircs has seized, but usually you still get a few psi boost then.

Unfortunately you'll have to remove the frontbumper to get good access to the ic's

If i disconnect the afm then the vehicle wont start and idle so i can't try that. The afm has the twin outlet pipe coming from it onto the solid pipes. If one end of this is left disconnected then the car still wont start. It can't be the recirc valves as i have bypassed them by keeping them closed and thats working of as i can feel no pressure from them. If it is a split intercooler then wouldn't i still get boost from the other side.

hmm. bloody thing. any more ideas?

Sounds like a massive boost leak or a blown turbo to me ..... :(

1 split intercooler ..... surely the balancer pipe that runs across the top of the plebum could let a large amouint of the boost out ?

Found it. 1 Split intercooler. drivers side is split at the edges. I have temp put a 200sx intercooler in place and this has solved the problem. But this wont fit in there so I'm in need of a 300zx drivers side intercooler please.

Any offers??

Cheers

I've got one you can have. Just come and collect it.
