Hey folks,

I've booked my Zed in at Nissan for its MOT on Monday. I'm sure it'll pass but am slightly concerned about emissions.

Is emissions test failing common among us Zedowners? Mine's decatted also.

I 'eard the trick about pulling that hose out (dunno what it's called but could point it out) but do you think this'll be necessary, or just a trick in case it fails

Also, the car will be sat there all morning waiting, so won't have been warmed up - will this be a problem? Or shall I tell them to warm it up first (like they'll listen  )

Thanks everyone :)

Pete

To do the emmisions test they have to warm the car up first anyway - thats part of the test. Not heard of too many Zeds failing on emmisions - even when decatted. The trick with the hose is if the HC readings are too high I think (maybe it was CO, can't remember...) - just pull the hose off the balance bar which goes to the fuel dampener - looks like the pressure regulator but is on the drivers side...

Pete,

As its a pre 92 car then it wont need to have an emmisions test!!!

Just for the record, even if its registered in 92 then check the chassis no and if its manufactured before the cut off date (July I think) then it also doesnt need to have a cat test!!

Only found this out cos my everydayer is regd in dec 92 but was made in June 92 so even though it has a cat it dont need to do the test!

Ahh I thought pre-92 just mean no cat is ok, should be fine then :)

Duff - cheers nice one, I'll try the hose trick *if* it fails.

unless youre lucky enough to have an Aug 95 > zed, it doesnt need to pass a cat test as there not in the emissions database.

it just needs to pass the pre cat test (3.5% co 1200ppm HC)

this is more info for FAQ section being made

Mine failed it's MOT recently on emissions....but thats got something to do with the fact that it had huge rust holes in each of the boxes. Something to do with it sucking in too much air???

Anyhow it meant that I had to have two monster powerflow oval exhaust pipes fitted last weekend!:D

Pete,

Been talking at cross purposes. Your car will need to have an emissions test cos of its year but it should only need a "None Catalyst (Metered Check)".

As PaulC has rightly pointed out this means they check the carbon monoxide (CO) is not more than 3.5% vol and the hydro carbons (HC) are not more than 1200 ppm vol.

There is also a visual check to ensure you aint chucking plumes of dirty great crap out the back.
