Brake Band has burned out.....Auto tt's do suffer from this quite badly...

Dont panic yet!

If its only going to 190 then not picking up 4th. staying in third.

Are the changes very jerky and harsh. especially the first change up?

Also on the overrun, when you lift off at any sort of speed does it return to almost idle, i.e. no engine braking?

I pressume you are not getting auto error code flashing when you first switch on, i.e. power light flashing 16 times.

If the answer is affirmative to all the above, then I dont have a clue! seriously though it sounds electrical, as that is what happened to mine.

Got it checked out by autobox specialist and found broken wire to autobox ecu. They checked everything else first though.

Cost about £300.

Good luck and hope you get it fixed soon.

:(

i have just removed a box with exactly the same problem.....diag will be o.k./....oil will be a little burn't..box will seem to operate in hold.....in normal mode kickdown will slip if used...alot of noticeable bog if from 1st to 3rd..

Mines the exact same but UK car. Have also been told it was the brake band

Box out, big job. Lots of cash.

Nissan seem a little foggy about how frequently the gearbox oil should be changed, but they do say that under severe driving conditions for the UK model it should be every 36,000 miles or 24 months. Therefore, taking a reasonable view that most cars are not driven under severe conditions I reckon that changing the oil at the 60,000 service or every 4 years would be sensible. In my experience very few people do this and FWIW my autobox packed up at 30,000 !!!

you can check solenoids and brake band operation by dropping sump to autobox. Again this is what they did to mine and when found OK started to look at wiring.

Get it checked at good autobox specialist.

You never no your luck!

yes it is very clunky from first to wot ever other gear it decides to find theres no engine braking at all also the OD doesnt seem to work now it lights up on the dash but doesnt make any differance to the driving at all but the oil isnt burnt at all and its not showing any fault codes up

Honestly I believe it is electrical.

Go to really good Autobox specialist with good diagnostics and experienced staff.

tell them to check connections first - pin test etc. before they take it apart, could save you a lot of time and money.

In fact that I think thats what the nissan manual says.

I will try to find relevant bit.

I will have a good guess that if you drain the tranny fliud it will be burnt ,will not be enough to show on the dipstick....you will only have engine braking in first or (third over 35-lockup)..

ray if u have got any wiring info id be well impressed if u could ring me with it 07989411656 im a hgv/psv mechanic and have to do lots of wiring but allways helps if u know which wire goes where and as for the oil its not burnt at the mo i can smell burnt auto oil a mile away. i presonaly think its the box fu**ed but ill try a bit of wiring first

As I said I had my work done at an autobox specialist, QAS in Bristol.

However try this link to the manual, may help you, worth a try - http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=at&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=1&design=default&total=194

This is on AndyP site see links at top of home page.

Good luck and hope this the problem an dyou get it sorted.

QAS had test every wire until they found the break.

I still think its worth getting it checked out by specialist, they can also do a fluid change, now replacing ALL the fluid, instead of the usual partial drain and top up (normally cant drain torque converter insitu)
