Went to pick my mum and dad up from gatwick last night. My normally reliable Ford Escort started to misbehave, stopping at Clacket Lane confirmed my suspecions, the back-box had collapsed causing restricted gas flow and increased back pressure.

To cut a long story short, I limped the car back from Gatwick to Hythe (Kent) without too much incident, but...

about 5 mins from home there was a BANG!

Do you think I need a new one? :D

Just had to share this, I was pi55ing myself laughing when I got home at 1:00 am last night - waking all the neighbours. Sounded like the Nova brigade!!

Cheers,

F.T.

P.s. where are you going to get a new one from Tim?

LMFAO:D Tim don't throw that hair piece away,we could stick it on Duffers head with glue:D;)

Well...

3hrs later, I have a brand new full cat-back system fitted.

Bought from my local Motor Factors: centre section, back box, hangers and gasket.

Fitted it myself.

This will make you weep, do you know how much?

£82.05 all in :D

That wouldn't buy you the gasket from Nissan.

Maybe Jay has the right idea... now where's that GT40 brochure?

Tim :D

How much are GT40s?

If you want an original one they start around £250000 ;)

or a kit for £20K ish!

Don't know which Jay is buying... :D

If all goes well I'll be the owner of a KVA GT40 replica by the weekend, should end up costing me around £17k including a new zorst & tidying up a few bits.

As Chris said, decent roadgoing kits are going from around £20k-£40k. All the sub £20k kits tend to get snapped up within days of going on sale (as I've found out over past couple of weeks).

Only prob is the MPG, if you thought the Z was bad get one of these. I'll be getting about 12mpg upto about 17mpg if I drive like a granny lmao.

Fingers crossed I'll have you all some pics by Monday ;)

Jay

My dad built an AC Cobra which uses a 5.7ltr engine which has masses of torque, kind of pull away in 4th gear torque. Its also very light. The trouble is its unstable at any speed with a max limit of about 80-85, any more and it'll take off if you hit any bump.

Hes now got a pretty new GTO (R reg) which he loves and the cobras gunna be up forsale.

IMO kitcars have a nasty shaky/rattly/tacky feel to them but are fun to drive on the lanes. But don't expect to go quick in them especially as they make a Z's safety features look like a volvo.

(I have no idea what GT40 kits are like, i aint dissin or nothing.)

J what engine do the replicas use?

Most use small block Fords 289ci(4.8) or 302ci(5.0) going up to the 351 (5.8) or 427 (7.0) these are also stroked to give even more ridiculous capacity. I gonna be going for the 302 as these seem to be the most common, if it aint powerful enough I'm gonna stick in a 351 which is good for >600hp/600ftlbs.

The yanks are getting 1200hp from these engines by whacking on a T88 but probably isn't much use on the road.

There's a few out there that have 3.5 Rover V8's or V6's but most stick with the Ford engines.
