I have managed to find a very reasonably priced stage 1 turbo fitting shop for the Nissan 300ZX.

I was going to have a go myself but because the price is so good, I am taking my car to them?

£1475 inc fitting for Stage 1 hybrids!!!1 I think this is brilliant!!!

Anyone else used them previously??:D

stage one hybrids? can you elaborate, just for your info those are stock standard turbos, no performance mods ect.

my only thought is to do research on the company before you hand them your car. Just cos someone says they can work on a 300, doesn't mean they're any good at it. Would you not be better paying a few more quid and getting someone with knowledge on the 300's (and I'm no way saying that this company hasn't)

Good luck

Well, the guy said that the stage 1 turbo conversion in cludes 360 degree thrust bearing and stronger internals. I know it doesn't make the car faster but I dont want to make it any quicker anyhows, I just want something more robust than the standard turbo when running more boost pressure. And the factt hat the stage 1 is only £200 more than the standard.

These guys have been doing 300's for years apparently and have developed special tools to do thje jobb which enables them to change the turbos without taking the engine out? I thought this wasnt possible but they assure me that it is and even offer a 1 year guarantee if anything goes wrong!

I was pointed in their direction by Jeff TT and when I spoke to Mark @ Turbo Sport he advised that Jeff has sent a few cars there and he has never had any complaints.

I must admit, VMTP in Birmingham which Jeff advised were very good for Gearbox work.....

I am surprsied I havent had anyone say they've ben there on this forum!!

well if thats what you want then go for it.

turbos can be done without engine out, and generally i think most people remove enigne beceause its easier and you get to see whats gone wrong with it lol.

But if they can do it and have been doing it then why not?

what is the charge without the turbos?

ie just the fitting labour?

Well it was 1200 or thereabouts with the standard turbos and their 350 each so the labour is about £500 I guess.

They did say that they'll need it for 4 days.

I wanted to go to stage 2, but they told me that with a standard engine, ie. no steel rods etc. I am asking for trouble and also I would have too much lag, so much that it'd be slower!

Is this right?

stock engine if in good nick can handle way more than stage two or whatever they are saying, more lag is deceptive, it ='s more power on the top, so im not so sure about that.

I was dubious to be honest...

What boost pressure should I be able to run on stage 1 turbos, full stainless system, hks panel filter, JWT chip and boost jets?

if they're hybrids then they should give power increase - hybrids are a hybrid of 2 turbo's, usually a smaller turbine section (to allow fast spool up) mated to a larger compressor ( for large air flow)

so are they stage 1 hybrids or just stage 1 turbo's with uprated internals??

He told me stage 1 hybrids!....so what boost pressure do you think?

And would a bigger intercooler help?

What are 555 injectors?

around 1 bar is about as far as you want to go i'd say.

larger intercoolers are a very good idea - better performance & reliability

555 injectors refer to the amount they can flow - 555cc, stock ones are around 370 IIRC, they allow for more power & higher boost. stock injectors will max out & run weak if you turn the boost up too high

HTH

so thats 14psi boost tehn, am I safe to run at this level?

What bhp roughly do you think it'll be?

And the intercooler sounds liek a good idea and I take it I wont need the 555c injectors then?

iv been running at a little over 1 bar for some time now - on standard turbos. a fair few here are too. with uprated units it should be no problem at all (assuming your engine isnt about to fall apart!! ;) )

JWT claim (on standard turbos) 1 bar boost, JWT chip, filter, exhaust 396bhp (at the flywheel). which are the mods im running.

some people say JWT's claim is a little high tho. not actually dyno'd mine (or really that bothered!! :D ) its quite a jump up from standard tho ;)

how much for the IC's?? a couple of guys on here sell uprated jobbies ;)

555's arnt really nessessary with these mods IMO. but if you go any further then yes

  • Author

Thanks for the advice paul, dont really want to go any further to be honest.

Running 13psi, which I was before the turbo went, was more than enough for me (for now)......

But I think the uprated intercooler is a must have!

I am also dying to get the front seats changed to something more like Tony C's and also get the dodgy velour covered interior panels recovered, their really dated ....

but all my money has been going on keeping the car running so I hope now it'll behave after this is done so I can concentrate on aesthetics more!!

Will do, thanks mate, need to pay me money so I can show ya'll me car!!

I used this company to get my turbos replaced earlier this year and I also went for the 360 degree bearings. One thing I wasn't told when I got the quote was that it DIDN'T include VAT. They had to replace a few bits like breather pipes and some wiring and the final bill was closer to £1800.

One other thing I found when my car went somewhere else for other work, was that there were quite a few pipes that were not connected to anything and an earth lead that was not earthed. Explains why it was running rough when I got it back. I'm not saying that Mark forgot to put them back on as I am not 100% sure they were connected to start with, but he should have noticed them as they were right next to the turbos.

Personally I wouln't use this company again and this is just my opinion. I may have just cought them on a bad day.

WOW,

Thanks for the advice mate, I have another guy coming to quote me on Monday, so I think I'll hold out till then.

Then I will call hat Mark back and ask about this mihap that you had and about the VAT.

Thanks for your advice mate, certainly changed my view on them...

Thanks again.;)
